Course Description

The purpose of this learning unit is to provide competency based training to provide the student with the fundamental knowledge for understanding the principles of aerodynamics from subsonic through to supersonic flight. This course provides an understanding of:
• Airflow
• Conditions of flight
• Lift and forces
• Drag
• Wing theory
• Lift augmentation
• Aircraft control
• Balancing
• Stability
• Aircraft speed
• Experimental techniques
• Wind tunnel testing.

1. Describe the effects and applicability of the terms and conditions relating to airflow
2. Explain the principles of operation relating to aerofoils and lift augmentation

Overview of Assessment

To successfully complete this course the student is required to pass written assessment tasks and demonstrate skills and ability by completing pratical tasks to aerospace standard.


Assessment Tasks

Assessment (2012)
Participants are required to complete all the assessment tasks to pass the course.

Assessment Item 1 (40%): Assignment
Assessment Item 2 (60%): Exam

Grading Criteria
As all assessment items involve group work contribution, all members within the group will receive the same grade. If team members believe that a member has not contributed equally and deserves the group assessment grade, a detailed report in writing is to be submitted to Yadana Wai by Friday 30 th October 2009. No individual projects will be accepted.

Late submission:

If you require an Extension of Submittable Work (assignments, reports or project work etc.) for 7 calendar days or less (from the original due date) and have valid reasons, you must complete and lodge an Application for Extension of Submittable Work (7 Calendar Days or less) form and lodge it with the Senior Educator/ Program Manager.
The application must be lodged no later than one working day before the official due date. You will be notified within no more than 2 working days of the date of lodgment as to whether the extension has been granted.

If you seek an Extension of Submittable Work for more than 7 calendar days (from the original due date) must lodge an Application for Special  Consideration form under the provisions of the Special Consideration Policy, preferably prior to, but no later than 2 working days  after the official due date.
