Course Description
This unit covers skills and knowledge required to negotiate and make informed decisions when accepting or declining a translation or an interpreting assignment in terms of terms and conditions, personal competence, level of preparedness, liability issues and recording keeping. This unit will be taught in a cluster with the following units:

Overview of Assessment
Assessment will be ongoing during the semester, and you will receive feedback on your progress. You will undertake a variety of assessment tasks and activities to assess your level of competence against key elements and performance criteria.
Assessment tasks my include, but not limited to, the following:
-teacher directed group activities
-practical exercises
-group discussions
-evidence of correspondence where assignments, conditions were clarified, negotiated
-practical demonstration of understanding of contractual documentation from the industry
Assessment Tasks
Assessment Task 1: Students (individual or group) will complete a written submission where they respond to a simulated translating or interpreting assignment. They will identify and negotiate terms with the agency and create a workplan to prepare for the assignment. They will then write a short reflective report where they discuss professional development needs (Elements 1 - 3) (This assessment will also assess Elements 1 - 4 in LANG 5761C and also LANG5767C Maintain and enhance professional practice.) This task will be assessed COMPETENT or NOT YET COMPETENT.
Assesment Task 2: written test on the content covered during the semester. This task will be also used for grading.

Extension of time for submission of assessable work:
Circumstances may arise which prevent students from completing an assessment task on time. In certain circumstances a student may be entitled to apply for an extension to the due date.
Extensions of 7 calendar days or less:
Students seeking an extension of 7 calendar days or less (from the original due date) must complete and lodge an Application for Extension of Submittable Work (7 Calendar Days or less) form and lodge it with the School.
Extensions of greater than 7 working days:
Students seeking an extension of more than 7 calendar days (from the original due date) must lodge an Application for Special Consideration form under the provisions of the Special Consideration Policy , preferably prior to, but no later than 2 working days after the official due date.
