Course Description
This unit covers recognising common materials used in engineering, assisting in the selection of a material for a specific application, and using test results to evaluate the properties of materials.

Overview of Assessment
The assessment is conducted in both theoretical and practical aspects of the course according to the performance criteria set in the National Training Package. Assessment may incorporate a variety of methods including written/oral activities and demonstration of practical skills to the relevant industry standards. Participants are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment activities to their teacher/assessor. Feedback will be provided throughout the course. To successfully complete this course you will be required to demonstrate competency in each assessment task detailed under Assessment Tasks:

Other Information
Students are expected to spend five (5) hours each week to complete this unit (readings, reflective journals, formulae calculations and weekly tasks, etc.), which includes classroom time (two hours per week on timetable) as well as preparation for the sessions and completing assessments. Timetable, class schedule and assessments are subject to minor changes. Follow all the prescribed instructions fully (e.g. file type, file name, deadline, submission spot, etc.) to handle and submit assessments.
