Course Description
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to adjust and maintain new and existing dental prostheses for dentate and edentulous patients.
This unit applies to work in dental prosthetics.

Details of Learning Activities
You will learn through a number of planned activities (face to face classes, simulated workplace learning, in the DHSV clinic with real live patients, online learning via Canvas and other forms of structured teaching and learning). You will be observed and assessed through their planned activities throughout the duration of the course.

Overview of Assessment
You must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role. There must be evidence that you have completed the following tasks:
• performed the activities outlined in the performance criteria of this unit during a period of at least 240 hours of work in a clinical dental workplace environment
• prepared 4 patients for adjustment and maintenance of a range of new and existing dental prostheses
• followed procedures to ensure 4 patient’s safety during adjustment and maintenance
• assessed the functional and aesthetic acceptability of at least 4 different completed prostheses.
To be deemed competent you must demonstrate an understanding of all aspects required of the competency.
Regular attendance is necessary. Assessment methods have been designed to measure your achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over multiple tasks and consist of theory and practical based tasks.

Assessment Task 1: Knowledge Assessment
The candidate must be able to demonstrate essential knowledge required to effectively complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit.
For this assessment you are to to answer 17 questions which relate to a range of workplace scenarios regarding performing maintenance treatment for patients with removable dental prostheses.
Feedback will be given at completion of assessment Task
Assessment Task 2: Practical Assessment
This is a Practical Assessment that will allow you to perform the activities outlined in the performance criteria of this unit during the period of at least 240 hours of work in a clinical dental workplace environment, as evidenced by their clinical log books.
-- You are to prepare 4 patients for adjustment and maintenance of a range of new and existing dental prostheses and you are to you are to assess the functional and aesthetic acceptability of at least 4 different completed prostheses.
-- You are, also, to follow procedures to ensure 4 patient’s safety during adjustment and maintenance.
Feedback will be given at completion of 'assessment Task.
* There are additional assessment requirements over and above those of the training package within this course to meet RMIT’s accreditation with the Australian Dental Council (ADC). This will ensure that, upon successful completion of the Advanced Diploma of Dental Prosthetics, students are eligible to apply for AHPRA registration. This will include assessment by an approved external assessor, who has been approved by the Australian Dental Council

To be deemed competent you must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of a competency. Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over multiple tasks.
You will be advised that you are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met. Observation of You performing work is used to confirm competency.
