Course Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to establish the information need, gather information and critically analyse the information for relevance to own work.
This unit applies to health and community service workers who need to research existing information to support and improve their work practice. It does not cover primary research.

Students will be able to access course information and learning materials through myRMIT and may be provided with additional materials in class. During the course, you will be directed to websites to enhance your knowledge and understanding of difficult concepts.
Overview of Assessment
The candidate must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role. There must be evidence that the candidate has:
- completed research activities and developed actions based on research outcomes for at least 2 different issues within own field of practice
To be deemed competent you must demonstrate an understanding of all aspects required of the competency. Regular attendance is necessary. Assessment methods have been designed to measure your achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over multiple tasks and consist of theory and practical based tasks.
Assessment Tasks
Task #1 - Written Report Group Research Project (topic to be given by facilitator)
Task #2 - Written Report Individual Research Project (topic to be chosen by student from list of topics provided by facilitator)
These assessments need to include developed actions based on research.

Late Submission:
If you require an Extension of Submittable Work (assignments, reports or project work etc.) for seven calendar days or less (from the original due date) and have valid reasons, you must complete an Application for Extension of Submittable Work (7 Calendar Days or less) form and lodge it with the Senior Educator/ Program Manager.
The application must be lodged no later than one working day before the official due date. You will be notified within no more than two working days of the date of lodgement as to whether the extension has been granted.
If you seek an Extension of Submittable Work for more than seven calendar days (from the original due date), you must lodge an Application for Special Consideration form under the provisions of the Special Consideration Policy, preferably prior to, but no later than two working days after the official due date.
Submittable Work (assignments, reports or project work etc.) submitted late without approval of an extension will not be accepted or marked.
