Course Description
This course will help you to market yourself as a screenwriting professional. You will research the wider screenwriting industry to source a work placement in an area that interests you (your placement may carried out at any time across the year, and may consist of one or a number of different placement opportunities). You will also learn the skills to sustain yourself and your writing projects, and assist in marketing the RMIT Screenwriting program to the wider creative community.

Overview of Assessment
Assessment is ongoing throughout the course. Your knowledge and understanding of course content is assessed through participation in class exercises and through the application of learned skills and insights to industry research, the completion of an industry placement and the development of work placement documentation.
Assessment Tasks
Students enrolled in Vocational Education and Training qualifications are assessed for Competency. To be assessed as Competent means you have consistently demonstrated the required knowledge and skills at a standard expected in the workplace. To be assessed as Competent in this course, you will need to complete each assessment task to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback from the teacher at the conclusion of each assessment task.
You should refer to the assessment brief which is available through Canvas for full assessment criteria.
Assessment Task 1: Action Plan, due Week 3
Following your self-evaluation of your own skills and knowledge, thoroughly research the workopportunities available in your particular areas of interest. Detail your research in and commit your plans to
a simple two-page document outlining your research, plans and strategies, which you will discuss with the
wider class.
Assessment Task 2: Develop professional presence and apply for placement, due Week 9 PART A – CV and cover letter Develop a CV and cover letter to a professional standard PART B – Develop your own webpage Develop a webpage that is visually enticing and professionally presented
PART C – Discussion/workshop: strategies to find and secure employment With your colleagues, teacher and other personnel – prepare short answers re your own planning to questions for a discussion/workshop
Part D – Apply for placement
Following your Action Plan that you developed in Assessment Task 1 – you need to provide evidence of
three (3) approaches to prospective placement hosts in your search for placement. At least one of these
should be a written approach.
Assessment Task 3: Placement/Reflection/Professional Conversation, due Week 13
During your search for and completion of a placement, please maintain a placement journal. Use this as the basis for aPlacement Reflection (500-800 words), to be lodged on Canvas subsequent to your placement. You must also submit a brief mentor letter from your placement host, on their official letterhead, attesting to your placement. If you have not completed an assessment task to a satisfactory standard, you will be given an opportunity to resubmit that task within one week of receiving feedback from your teacher. If the resubmission is deemed unsatisfactory, the matter will be referred to the program coordinator.
