Course Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to develop glossaries for translating and interpreting assignments. It includes the ability to identify and source suitable reference material, and to make efficient use of tools and equipment.
This unit applies to those working as translators and interpreters who are responsible for minimising risks associated with inadequate preparation, or collaborating with colleagues in translating and interpreting tasks.

Details of Learning Activities
This unit is delivered with other units such as LANG5895C Negotiate translating or interpreting assignments, LANG5896C Interpret in complex monologue settings and LANG5898C Use note taking to recall and reproduce source messages. Learning activities may include discussion of common interpreting and translating topics, identifying key terminology for assignments, conduct simulated preparation by building bilingual terminology, negotiating interpreting and translating assignments, practising monologue interpreting and notetaking to assist with accurate rendition.

Overview of Assessment
Assessment will be ongoing during the semester and you will be asked a variety of assessment tasks and activities to assess your level of competence against key performance criteria.
These assessment tasks/activities may include, but are not limited to:

This is a simulated assessment which will allow you to demonstrate your ability to:
- research on given assignments
- develop glossaries that will be used in assignments; and
- evaluate other’s work
Assessment Matrix
Each assessment clearly outlines the competencies being addressed in the task in relation to performance criteria. The sum of assessment tasks will cover all units and their elements over a range of occasions. You will be given opportunities to demonstrate competency in a variety of ways throughout the program. You are encouraged to discuss any problems or concerns with your teacher or program coordinator.
