Course Description
This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to use a range of industrial sewing sewing machines to align and sew work pieces.
It applies to sewing work using a plain lockstitch machine, zigzag sewing machine or a three thread overlocker to sew straight seams or join flat pieces of stable fabric together.

Teaching Schedule
Weeks 1-3: Introduction to Production area and machinery.
Weeks 3-8: Straight sewing machine activities.
Weeks 3-8: Overlock machine activities.
Weeks 6-8: Sample garment construction.
Weeks 9-11: Sampler construction activities.
Weeks 11-12: Intermediate garment construction and sewing activities.
Weeks 13-16: Complex garment construction and sewing activities.

Overview of Assessment
Assessment is ongoing throughout the course and will include three assessments or projects. Assessments will be in the form of tests for underpinning knowledge and demonstration and observation of your abillity to use a single sewing machine to align and sew work pieces. Also by questioning for underpinning knowledge.

Quality Standards must be met for the Samplers and Presentation of the A4 File.
