Course Description

This unit of competency covers the skills and knowledge required to recognise and identify types of stains and other marks on articles or garments, and determine and document spotting treatment requirements.

1. Identify stain

Performance Criteria:

1.1 Steps for identifying the type of stain are followed
1.2 Stain is correctly identified
1.3 Workplace procedures and instructions are read and interpreted


3. Organise spotting procedure

Performance Criteria:

3.1 Spotting requirements are documented and communicated to customer or work personnel
3.2 Article is labelled and processed for spotting operation


2. Determine spotting requirements

Performance Criteria:

2.1 Spotting requirements for the identified stain are correctly
2.2 Particular needs for fibre or fabric, dye and colour are taken into account when determining the spotting requirements
2.3 Knowledge of spotting processes are applied to perform tasks

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course you will be able to Identify stains on articles, determine spotting requirements and organise the spotting procedure ready for others to remove the stain by spotting.

Details of Learning Activities

In general your training is contextualised according to the company’s production processes undertaken as a part of the trainees normal work duties.

Your tasks are selected for training and explanation of the task to be undertaken is given by the trainer and the correct procedure discussed. The task is demonstrated by the trainer and underpinning skills and knowledge are developed.

When the trainer is confident you are capable of undertaking the task safely you will then do the task. During this time your work will be monitored by the trainer and questioning and further instruction given.

You will also be given workplace based tasks and activities to complete and practice between visits. Any activities and work performed between visits are reviewed and further training is undertaken accordingly.

1 Introduction and overview of course. Basics of skills required and course content 2hrs
2 Use of learning resources and basic skills development 2 hrs
3 Workshop 6 hrs
4 Complete manuals 4 hrs
5 Supervised skill development to competency 14 hrs
6 Consolidation of skills and assessment 2 hrs

You will practice skills and understanding as a part of your workplace duties between sessions. Activities and work performed between visits are reviewed in the following session and further training is undertaken accordingly.
