To provide learners with a general knowledge of construction principles, standards and services commonly used in single storey residential scale buildings

Learning Outcomes
This course will provide the learner to develop knowledge & skills and able to:
• Investigate, interpret, and communicate to others the effects of Local Government regulations, Australian Building Code and the relevant Standards on a single storey residential scale building.
• Use correct building terminology in the description of building planning, construction and methodology.
• Investigate, appraise and describe the basic characteristics of a building site.
• Describe the sequencing of trades appropriate to the different forms of residential construction.
• Describe in detail types, principles and standard practices of single storey residential construction.
• Describe in detail the types, principles, construction standards and practices of commonly used residential claddings, linings, finishes and coatings.
• Describe the types, principles, construction standards and practices of window, door and joinery fabrication and installation.
• Describe the basic types, principles, construction standards and practices of residential site works;
• Describe the basic principles and integration of building services into the building, in accordance with standard practices and the regulations of the supply authorities.
• Describe the structural principles of loads, forces, stresses and strains.
• Prepare freehand construction details for single storey residential scale.
• Demonstrate a general knowledge of the principles involved in Energy Efficient design and construction of single storey residential buildings.
