Course Description
In this course, you will develop the skills and knowledge required to install and test lighting systems for bands, seminars and other live events. You will learn to work autonomously and in a team environment as you take responsibility for creating quality lighting installations for live productions.

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this course you will have developed and applied the skills and knowledge required to demonstrate competency in the above elements.
You will:
- be familiar with production lighting terminology
- understand documentation like lighting plans, schematics, equipment lists, schedules and cue lists
- be familiar with techniques for rigging and hanging lighting equipment within licensing requirements
- be familiar with procedures like hard patching and soft patching
- understand and be able to apply basic principles of lighting design
- use tools and test equipment necessary to install and maintain lighting equipment
Details of Learning Activities
Please note that in 2020 this unit is clustered in delivery and assessment with Lead Team Effectiveness GEDU6111C. The classes and Canvas shell will be called Install Lighting in Teams.
In this course, you will develop the skills and knowledge required to install and test lighting systems for bands, seminars and other live events in teams. You will learn to work autonomously and in a team environment as you take responsibility for creating quality lighting installations for live productions.
The course will be delivered through face-to-face classes which are practical and use production lighting equipment and event rigging in RMIT's Radio Theatre where we will cover theory and work in teams to set-up, patch, problem solve, focus and pack down basic and standard event lighting systems.

Assessment Tasks
Assessment is ongoing throughout the course and will include a range of practical and theory components. Full assessment briefs will be provided and can be found on Canvas. Please note that in 2020 this unit is clustered in delivery and assessment with Lead Team Effectiveness GEDU6111C.
This is a Vocational Education and Training qualification and is assessed for Competency. To be assessed as Competent means you have consistently demonstrated the required knowledge and skills at a standard required in the workplace. To be assessed as Competent in this course, you will need to complete each assessment task to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback from the teacher at the conclusion of each assessment task.

Assessment Task 1:LIGHTING PLAN PROJECT Due date: 10th February 2020.
This project is the first of three (3) assessment tasks you need to complete satisfactorily, in order to be deemed competent for this unit. The context of the project is to work toward a future actual lighting installation for a live performance by preparing a lighting plan.
Assessment Task 2:INSTALL LIGHTING PRAC IN TEAMS Due date: To be completed by 5th June 2020
This assessment shall take place in smaller groups (not your whole class) - over 4 weeks in April - May - you shall be participating in one of these (compulsory) for your assessment - and as an observer for the rest, if that is appropriate.
Assessment Task 3:LIGHTING IN TEAMS PRODUCTION QUIZ Due date: To be completed by 29th May 2020
This assessment is a knowledge test. QUIZ answers must be uploaded to CANVAS - however it can also be done in class time on the due dates.
