Course Description
The course describes the skills and knowledge required to identify Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety issues in the workplace, model cultural safety in own work practice, and develop strategies to enhance cultural safety.
This course applies to people working in a broad range of roles including those involved in direct client service, program planning, development and evaluation contexts.
This course includes a Work Integrated Learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/or community is integral to your experience.

Students will be able to access course information and learning materials through CANVAS.
CANVAS is an online resource with the lesson plans for each unit. Within CANVAS are the session lessons plans, assessments, resources and other materials required for completion of each unit of competency.
Additional materials maybe provided in class and lists of relevant reference books, resources in the library and accessible Internet sites will be provided where possible. During the course, you will be directed to websites to enhance your knowledge and understanding of difficult concepts.
Overview of Assessment
To be deemed competent you must demonstrate an understanding of all aspects required of the competency. Assessment methods have been designed to measure your achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over multiple tasks. Assessment will be supported in a dedicated online module.

Assessment TASK 1: Written Assessment
This written assessment is based on a case study and you are to answer the questions to demonstrate your understanding of the performance criteria. This will include your approach to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander to cultural safety within your workplace.
Assessment TASK 2: Written Assessment and Self-Reflection
This written assessment is based on you completing the short answers after researching and completing the online learning tasks. This assessment task will demonstrate your ability to apply your knowledge and understanding to the workplace context, including self-reflection on your own culture, with respect to promoting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander culture and safety.
