Course Description
This course describes the skills and knowledge required to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

Details of Learning Activities
Face to face and or online lectures to cover theoretical and practical concepts for each topic in the course
• You will learn to apply your skills and knowledge during simulations, and classroom based learning.
• Tutorial activities (individually and in teams) to discuss, debate, critique and consolidate your ideas and extend your understanding around key concepts within specific topics
• Online discussion and activities support you to collaborate with other students in your course and debate and discuss ideas
• Self directed study time to enhance and strengthen your knowledge and understanding of theoretical concepts
• To further facilitate learning, students are strongly encouraged to use a range of communication tools your teacher and fellow students by using the online learning platform

Overview of Assessment
Assessment Tasks-
You must demonstrate Performance and Knowledge Evidence of the unit in order to be deemed competent.
Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over a range of assessment tasks.

Competency based training requires you to be in attendance in order for assessment to be undertaken.
Feedback will be provided throughout the semester in class and/or online discussions.

Assessment Tash 1: Knowledge Questions
This assessment comprises 27 short-answer questions which are aligned to the topics covered in this course. Students will submit this assessment online via CANVAS and will be assessed as Satisfactory/Not Satisfactory.
Assessment Task 2 - Three Client Interactions
Students are required to communicate with a client/ peer in a simulated environment that reflects workplace conditions. Note that this is one of three identical tasks. For each of the tasks students will choose a range of diversity characteristics, which may include age, gender, transgender, culture, race, ethnicity, spiritual beliefs, English as a Second Language (ESL) background, Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people, sexual orientation, disability, neurodivergence. Each interaction will be recorded t and will be submitted via Canvas. To assess students' competency, the assessor will use an observational checklist and students will also complete a self-reflection for each interaction. Students work will be assessed as Satisfactory/Not Satisfactory.Results that apply to courses that are delivered and assessed in accordance with competency-based assessment are:

Resubmissions
For each assessment you will be given up to two (2) attempts, however, to be granted the second attempt at any assessment, your first attempt must be an appropriate attempt to try and gain a satisfactory outcome. For example, you must appropriately attempt each question or aspect of the assessment task. If your first attempt fails to meet the above standard, you may not be eligible for a second attempt at that task. A third (3rd) attempt can only be offered after discussions between teacher and the Program Coordinator and is not automatic.

Attendance
Your learning experience will involve class-based teaching, discussion, demonstration and practical exercises. It is strongly advised that you attend all timetabled sessions. This will allow you to engage in the required learning activities, ensuring you the maximum opportunity to complete this course successfully. If you are sick you should submit a medical certificate to the course coordinator/teacher. If you miss an assessable practical class you need to provide a medical certificate (or other evidence) and need to apply for special consideration. Assessment catch ups are organised only for granted special consideration.

Extensions of time for submission of assessable work
If you are prevented from submitting an assessment on time by circumstances outside your control you may apply for an extension of up to seven (7) calendar days using the Assessment Extension tool in Canvas at least one working day BEFORE the due date. Special consideration
If due to illness or other unforeseen circumstance, you are unable to attend on the due date of an assessment (e.g. test, examination, oral, etc.), you may submit an application for special consideration within 5 working days of the due date.
