Course Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to contribute to the planning and implementation of strategies to support students who have challenges that may limit their access to the curriculum and its outcomes.
The unit applies to education support workers who operate under the guidance and supervision of a teacher or other educational professional. They work mainly with students in classroom settings in primary or secondary schools, as defined by State/Territory legislation.
The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.
You will learn the skills to record information and observations according to organisational policies and procedures. You will use listening and questioning skills to seek information and confirm understanding. In addition, you will use will learn to use assistive technology.
This unit is clustered for delivery and assessment with Provide support to students with autism spectrum disorder (CHCEDS056).
Assessment for this course includes role-plays, portfolio and presentation, reflection and practical activity.

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this course, you will have developed and applied the skills and knowledge required to demonstrate competency in contributing to planning and providing support for students with additional needs and responding to indicators of emotional wellbeing.
Overview of Assessment
Feedback will be provided throughout the semester in class and/or online discussions, through individual and group feedback on practical exercises and by individual consultation. Full assessment briefs will be provided and can be found on Canvas.
