Course Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to research the viability of ideas for business opportunities and develop and present proposals for viable options in formats suiting a range of stakeholders.
The unit applies to those establishing or operating a business providing self-employment, as well as those establishing a new venture as part of a larger organisation. The proposals may relate to products and/or services offered by the business.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Overview of Assessment
Assessment for this course is ongoing throughout the semester. Your knowledge and understanding of course content is assessed through participation in class exercises, oral/written presentations and through the application of learned skills and insights. Full assessment briefs will be provided and can be found on CANVAS.
Assessment Tasks
There are two assessment tasks, all of which must be completed satisfactorily to achieve a grade of 'Competent' for this unit of study.
Assessment Task 1 - Written questions
This is an open book written assessment.
There are seven questions and some questions have sub-parts.
You must answer all questions and their parts correctly to achieve a satisfactory outcome for this task.
Assessment Task 2 - Develop and present a business proposal
For this task, you will research and evaluate business ideas. Then you will develop and present a proposal for one viable product or service. This task has four parts:
- Part A: You will research and evaluate business ideas for viability. You will record outcomes using provided template.
- Part B: You will participate in a role-play to communicate identified risks associated with your business idea. You will also assist stakeholders in developing risk management systems.
- Part C: You will develop a proposal for a viable business idea (product or service). Your proposal will include establishing a budget and descriptions of the product or service using provided templates.
- Part D: You will present your developed business proposal using a suitable form and method. You will seek feedback from stakeholders about the proposal
