Course Description
Students extend their knowledge of drawing and drawing mediums and techniques, and apply these concepts to a major body of work that significantly supports and extends their other practical areas.
In this course drawing is recognised as an autonomous medium in its own right, as well as a medium for recording and shaping initial ideas for further development in other disciplines.

Learning Outcomes
1. Use a variety of drawing techniques and mediums to create a resolved body of drawn images 2. Develop drawing as a creative activity which broadens the physical dexterity and the mental faculties of the student 3. Demonstrate through the production of artwork a more sophisticated application of the visual elements within the drawing process
4. Demonstrate, through the production of drawings, an understanding of the processes, procedures, and requirements of projects involving drawing for specific purposes
5. Describe and explain the application of a refined knowledge of materials and techniques in the drawing process
6. Produce a series of drawings in tandem with a project in an area of major study
7. Analyse the work practices of established artists by explaining how they use drawing as part of the creative process

Through a series of open ended projects students develop an understanding of the full potential for drawing as a fundamental aspect of independent studio practice.
Teaching Schedule
Week 1: Orientation
Week 2: Introduction to 2nd year Drawing. Drawing as a vehicle for self-expression, a support for studio practice and as a vital component in the development of an individual visual language is discussed and illustrated via a power point presentation looking at the various ways in which contemporary artists utilize drawing. The first project is handed out and discussed.
Weeks 3-17: Drawing is delivered through a studio based tutorial programme that is tailored by the teaching staff for individual student’s learning requirements. A series of projects are presented for the students to choose from with the aim that through this research an independent studio practice will evolve.. Students meet with staff for scheduled studio tutorials to discuss the progress.
