This Course is delivered and assessed as a part of a cluster with Prepare & Apply Chemicals, Transport & Handle Chemicals, Control Weeds.
Course Description
This course develops competency in preparation methods for readiness to respond to emergencies when preparing, storing & handling chemicals, such as herbicides and pesticides. This includes understanding and implementing emergency response protocols. Evaluation of an emergency is also part of this, where hazard level is determined and availability of key first response personnel. Emergency prioritisation of responses is also a component. Physical and organisational infrastructure, such as chemical store emergency response protocols and signage are identified. Examples are use of safety shower, eye bath, wash-down procedure & spill kit usage. The monitoring of health of exposed persons is included. The method to obtain urgent assistance from emergency services and connected bodies such as the Poisons Information Service to health-affecting emergencies is given. Hazard isolation techniques and first aid responses identified to the level of the respondee’s qualification.
