Course Description
This unit specifies the outcomes required to research and recommend soft furnishings for various decoration and design solutions to meet client and project brief requirements.

Learning Outcomes
This unit supports the attainment of skills and knowledge required for competent research and recommendation of soft furnishings which include curtains and window fittings, carpets, rugs and textiles used in upholstery, cushions and trimmings, in order to achieve integrated decoration and design solutions to meet a project brief.

Some activities will include a self directed learning approach, Self-directed learning refers to organised activities that students undertake independently, either as individuals or with other students, that are directed by a teacher. Overview of Assessment
• Effectively research soft furnishings to assist with informing the decoration process and arrive at a solution which meets client requirements
• Effectively apply design elements and principles to the recommendation of soft furnishings to achieve a minimum of two integrated decorative solutions
• Correctly calculate quantities and costings required to achieve decorative solution
• Visually present decorative ideas
• Comply with legislation, regulations, standards, codes of practice and established safe practices and procedures for researching and recommending soft furnishings
Assessment Tasks
Soft Furnishings for Interiors is clustered with a number of units using the same projects for assessment.
Clustered with Decorate Residential Interiors, Prepare a Material Board & Drawing Techniques.
Task 1
Fabric Swatch Collection- To identify and collect key fabric samoles that will be used regularly in the Interior Design & decoration Industry.
Task 2
"When we were Young", Child’s bedroom fit out - To research suitable fabrics, furniture & accessories to fit out a Childs bedroom. Supported with full documenation & costings.
Task 3
Regular quizzes to form part on-line assessment & final calculation test. on curtain & blind calculations.
All components must be addressed to gain a pass in this course and be deemed competent overall.
Soft Furnishing for Interiors is a perquisite for Specify Furnishing Solutions.
