This unit specifies the workplace performance required by an employee to contribute to OHS processes where there is responsibility for own work outputs and possibly limited responsibility for the work output of others

Teaching Schedule
Lesson 1: Plan and Conduct work safely
• Identify & discuss WHS legislation, standards & guidance notes
• Define workplace hazards & discuss strategies to address these within an EN’s scope of practice
• Identify & describe the processes, including documentation of workplace incidents & injuries
• Identify & describe strategies to update & maintain own knowledge of WHS issues
• Identify & describe strategies to manage own levels of stress & fatigue
Lesson 2: Support others in work safety
• Identify & describe strategies to share information about safe work practices
• Identify & describe strategies to support monitor WHS of lesser experienced members of the workgroup
• Identify & describe strategies to provide guidance to lesser experienced members of the workgroup to work safely
• Identify & describe to support members of the work group to record incidents & associated workplace documentation
Lesson 3: Contribute to WHS participative processes Contribute to hazard identification, WHS risk assessment and risk control activities
• Identify & describe the roles & responsibilities of WHS representatives & committees
• Identify & discuss how the EN can contribute to workplace meetings, inspections & other activities to improve safety
• Identify & describe the EN’s roles & responsibilities in conducting workplace risk assessments
• Identify & describe strategies to develop & implement control measures, with reference to the hierarchy of control
Lesson 4: Participate in the control of Emergency Procedures
• Define & discuss responses to first aid emergencies, including
- primary survey
- secondary survey
- BLS
- the role of the workplace first aide officer
• Identify & describe hospital emergency codes
• Identify & discuss the EN’s roles & responsibilities in clinical emergencies
• Identify & discuss how to respond to emergencies at RMIT
