Course Description

This unit of competency describes the application of in-depth level of knowledge of anatomy and physiology required to analyse available health information in relation to specific services to be provided

This unit of competency is co delivered with HLTEN503B Contribute to client Assessment and developing nursing care plans.

1.2 Recognise normal readings on the findings of available tests, observations and physical assessments that assist in determining health status

1.3 Use detailed knowledge to identify common pathophysiologies (or changing pathologies) through observation and analysis of associated available information

1.4 Identify the likely impact of specific interventions

2.1 Apply detailed understanding of anatomyphysiology and pathophysiology of disease to take a problem solving approach to plan services to reflect identified health status and address needs.

2.3 Document action plan in accordance with organisation policies and procedures.

3.1 Make informed decisions to implement the action plan based on in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology in relation to specific services provided.

3.2 Provide services in accordance with the action plan, organisation policies and procedures and work health and safety (WHS) requirements.

3.3 Maintain current, complete, accurate and relevant records for each client contact.

3.4 Monitor impact of services in line with job role and organisation policies and procedures.

This unit is part of an integrated program.
You must demonstrate Performance and Knowledge Evidence of the unit in order to be deemed competent.
Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over a range of assessment tasks.

The skills and knowledge to be assessed within this unit are as follows:

1. Poster presentation - group presentation

2. Case Study

Competency based training requires you to be in attendance in order for assessment to be undertaken.

Feedback will be provided throughout the semester in class and/or online discussions, through individual and group feedback on practical exercises and by individual consultation.

All Assessment tasks should be performed or submitted by their due dates.


If due to illness or other unforeseen circumstance, you are unable to attend on the due date of an assessment (e.g. test, examination, oral, etc.) OR you do attend, but your performance has been affected, you may submit an APPLICATION FOR SPECIAL CONSIDERATION within 2 working days of the due date. If Special Consideration is granted, you will be given the opportunity to complete/repeat the assessment task at a later date. If due to illness or other unforeseen circumstance, you are unable to submit by the due date (e.g. assignment, report, project etc.):

This unit HLTAP501C Analyse health information is a pre-requisite for HLTEN507C Administer and monitor medications in the work environment.

Each assessment will be marked as either Satisfactory or Not Satisfactory.

In order to be assessed a Competent for this unit you must achieve a Satisfactory result for each assessment task.

The student is expected to attend classes, Lab sessions and Clinical Placement where applicable.

Resubmission or Reassessment of an Assessment Task:

Resubmission of any assessment task will be at the discretion of the Program Coordinator.

Reassessment of students who have attempted to undertake a practical assessment in the Clinical Lab (resulted as Not Satisfactory), and have attended all Lab sessions will be given one (1)  further opportunity to demonstrate a Satisfactory result.
