Course Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to support adult learners to extend their language, literacy and numeracy skills within a workplace or community context. It requires a sound knowledge of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) and skills to extend own practice, and the practice of others.

This course is fully online. Activities include:

• participation in online discussion boards/threads and Collaborate sessions or other webinar-type activities

• analysis/critique of relevant reading material

Teaching Schedule

This course is taught over 4 sessions in semester 2.
Note: While your teacher will cover all the material in this schedule, the order is subject to change depending on student needs.
Session 1
Analyse the LLN requirement of the training specification and context using the ACSF; identify learner's LLN skill levels and potential barriers to their development of LLN skills
Session 2
Analyse learner's strengths and needs; consider a range of strategies to develop reading, writing, speaking, listening and numeracy skills; design training and assessment to build skills and access required LLN resources; implement program

Session 4

Overview of Assessment
During the program you will complete assessment tasks which are listed, in detail, at the beginning of the course. These tasks may include :
- Workplace based projects
- Online assessment (eg discussion forum, blog, wiki, quiz)
- Professional conversation
- Third-party reports

Assessment Tasks
To demonstrate competency in this course you will need to complete all of the following tasks to a satisfactory standard.
You will receive written feedback on all assessment.
Task 1: Identify and report LLN skills
- determine language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) levels using validated tools, including those based on the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF), for at least 5 learners
- determine the requirements of training, based on the ACSF
Task 2: Design and implement LLN support
- plan training and assessment that incorporates LLN support strategies relevant to at least two different learners, or groups of learners, in response to the ACSF assessment and learners’ goals
Task 3: Review and reflect
- review own strategy, and strategies of others, used to support LLN
- lead others to extend practice.
Further details of the above assessment tasks will be provided in Semester 1, Week 1 via myRMIT>myStudies.
It is a requirement of the Dip Training Design and Development (TAE50216) program that all assessment work be submitted electronically through the appropriate Canvas shell. You are asked to submit any workplace projects as a single Word or PDF file which must include a signed RMIT Cover Sheet; multiple project files will not be accepted.
