Course Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop, implement and monitor infection prevention and control systems and procedures in work contexts where health and personal care services are provided. This unit applies to people working in roles with managerial responsibilities for infection prevention and control in small to medium sized organisations. There may or may not be a team of workers involved.

1. Establish framework for infection prevention and control

Performance Criteria:

1.1 Access and interpret legislation, regulations and codes of practice for infection prevention and control 1.2 Collate and evaluate information on workplace requirements for infection prevention and control 1.3 Evaluate current policies, systems and procedures for compliance and quality 1.4 Consult with relevant colleagues on infection prevention and control issues and requirements 1.5 Develop and document infection prevention and control systems and procedures, including record keeping and reporting systems 1.6 Define and allocate infection prevention and control responsibilities


2. Establish procedures for hazard identification and risk control

Performance Criteria:

4. Evaluate infection prevention and control performance

his will be an online course presented via webinar . Students are expected to read the class slides prior to the webinar this then will allow for any questions to be addressed and an online forum to be developed.

• Work experience &/or placements observation of performance in the workplace will be a

valuable part of your learning experience

• Online discussions and activities to support and collaborate with other students in your course

and debate and discuss ideas

• Self-directed study time (eg. readings or activities around theory) to enhance and strengthen

your knowledge and understanding of theoretical concepts

Assessment Tasks

Assessment 1: Case Studies - Assessment Due 3rd August 2020-

"Rectification Assessment TBA"


Students will be given 3 case studies- Within these studies are scenarios that will require the student to identify the WHS/INF problems , resolve the problem in the short term and identify who to report to the rectify the problem permanently


Assessment 2: Group Task - Assessment Due 7th August 2020

"Rectification Assessment TBA"

students will be allocated into groups of 5 to 6 . Then will them work together to deliver a power point presentation that can be used to educate other students on WHS/INF measures that can be implemented into a clinical environment. Students will present their presentation to 3 members of their student cohort and develop a feedback form that students can use on how useful this tool was to them.

Assessment 3 - Clinic Checklist  -Due 30th October 2020

A clinic checklist reviewed during WIL clinic ensuring that all aspects of clinic WHS/INF control standards are maintained.

Important information regarding Assessment Tasks:


Resubmissions are not automatic and will only be approved at the discretion of the Program Coordinator, after consultation with the teacher and each individual assessment may only be resubmitted once. 

All students will be contacted with 7 days by their course coordinator in regards to  resubmission completion dates.


Please note an opportunity to repeat clinical placement is not guaranteed and will be at the discretion of the Clinical Coordinator/Program Manager.




If due to illness or other unforeseen circumstance, you are unable to attend on the due date of an assessment (e.g. test, examination, oral, etc.) OR you do attend, but your performance has been affected, you may submit an APPLICATION FOR SPECIAL CONSIDERATION within 5 working days of the due date. If Special Consideration is granted, you will be given the opportunity to complete/repeat the assessment task at a later date. For advice on this application please visit or speak to your Program Coordinator.

If due to illness or other unforeseen circumstance, you are unable to submit by the due date (e.g. assignment, report, project etc.):
you may submit an APPLICATION FOR EXTENSION OF TIME FOR SUBMISSION OF ASSESSABLE WORK for an extension of time of up to seven (7) calendar days or less. This must be lodged with the Program Coordinator 1 working day before the original due date. If granted, you will have the opportunity to submit up to 7 days later than the original due date.
