Course Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to establish, maintain and evaluate work health and safety (WHS) policies, procedures and programs in the relevant work area, according to WHS legislative requirements.
This unit applies to workers who have responsibility for WHS as part of their role, including workers with obligations under WHS legislation, persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBUs), or their officers (as defined by relevant legislation).

student & clinical practice environment, during simulations and classroom based learning
• Work experience &/or placements observation of performance in the workplace will be a
valuable part of your learning experience
• Tutorial activities (individually and in teams) to discuss, debate, critique and consolidate your
ideas and extend your understanding around key concepts within specific topics
• Online discussions and activities to support and collaborate with other students in your course
and debate and discuss ideas
• Utilise and develop critical research and cognitive skills to find credible sources of health
information
• Self-directed study time (eg. readings or activities around theory) to enhance and strengthen
your knowledge and understanding of theoretical concepts
• To further facilitate learning students are strongly encouraged to use a range of communication
tools between themselves and their course instructor as well as between themselves and fellow

Overview of Assessment
This unit is part of an integrated program.
You must demonstrate Performance and Knowledge Evidence of the unit in order to be deemed competent.
Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over a range of assessment tasks.
You may be assessed by:
• Oral or written questioning
• Oral presentations
• Assignments and projects
• Direct observation of actual work practice
• Presentation of a portfolio of evidence which may comprise documents, and/or photographs and/or video and/or audio files
• Work-based activities
• Third-party feedback from a work supervisor/employer
Primary assessment involves on-going practical and applied assessment in a clinical workplace or simulated environment such as a supervised student clinic or at a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) placement activity.
Competency based training requires you to be in attendance in order for assessment to be undertaken.
Feedback will be provided throughout the semester in class and/or online discussions, through individual and group feedback on practical exercises and by individual consultation.
All Assessment tasks should be performed or submitted by their due dates.
If due to illness or other unforeseen circumstance, you are unable to attend on the due date of an assessment (e.g. test, examination, oral, etc.) OR you do attend, but your performance has been affected, you may submit an APPLICATION FOR SPECIAL CONSIDERATION within 2 working days of the due date. If Special Consideration is granted, you will be given the opportunity to complete/repeat the assessment task at a later date. If due to illness or other unforeseen circumstance, you are unable to submit by the due date (e.g. assignment, report, project etc.):

Assessment Tasks
Task 1 Case Studies: Due 7th March 2017 Submitted via Turnitin
- Each student will be required to provide a detailed response to 6 case studies as follows:
3 x Infection Control
3 x Workplace Health and Safety
Each case study will start with a scenario that requires you to apply the knowledge gained in order to make the individuals’ work place safe, by complying to Work Health and Safety Legislation and Infection Control requirements.
- Task 2 Group Project: Due date: 14th March 2017 Submitted via Turnitin
Step 1: Identify 2x risks or hazards within a clinical setting for Workplace Health and Safety and Infection control
Step 2: Conduct a risk assessment for both hazards/risks identified
Step 3: Develop control measures to manage and reform the workplace around these two workplace risks.
Step 4: Develop a training session to train staff on both hazards. This information session should include workplace policies, procedures and use/demonstration of the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required for the job role. Training must provide a detailed understanding of why these hazards present a risk, how a hazard can occur, how to comply with WHS/Infection Control procedures, how to minimise/prevent the risk, create a written feedback form in order to review your presentation to the class.
Step 5: Develop an action plan based on the findings above and demonstrate how you will monitor training, legislation changes (state & national), council regulation updates and association updates. Furthermore, please explain how you will keep track of this information and how you will review this process.
Step 6: Develop a simulated emergency plan for your staff and provide training on how to perform the evacuation.
Step 7: Present your training session to the class and provide the class with a feedback form to review your presentation.
Step 8: Submit the final copy of all paper work used via blackboard.

Discuss your training session feedback provided by your class, apply the modification to your content and submit all the forms via Blackboard.
