Course Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to monitor and evaluate remedial massage treatments, both from an individual client and whole of practice perspective.

1.1 Seek client feedback about treatment impacts and compliance with the treatment plan

 

1.2 Make own observations and assessment of client changes based on massage framework

 

1.3 Evaluate treatment impacts in relation to client’s physical, mental, spiritual and emotional well being

 

1.4 Compare changes and improvements with expectations in the treatment plan, existing research and evidence from own practice

 

1.5 Seek additional information from clients when progress suggests this is needed

• Face-to-face &/or online lectures to cover theoretical and practical concepts for each topic in the course

• Students will learn to apply their skills and knowledge to work integrated learning (WIL) in the student & clinical practice environment, during simulations and classroom based learning

• Work experience &/or placements observation of performance in the workplace will be a valuable part of your learning experience

• Tutorial activities (individually and in teams) to discuss, debate, critique and consolidate your ideas and extend your understanding around key concepts within specific topics • Online discussions and activities to support and collaborate with other students in your course and debate and discuss ideas • Utilise and develop critical research and cognitive skills to find credible sources of health information

• Self-directed study time (eg. readings or activities around theory) to enhance and strengthen your knowledge and understanding of theoretical concepts

• To further facilitate learning students are strongly encouraged to use a range of communication tools between themselves and their course instructor as well as between themselves and fellow students by using the online learning platform

• It is strongly recommended that students partner up with fellow students in order to practice assessment, treatment and palpation techniques

The skills to be assessed within this unit replicate real work skills within the industry.

  2. Students must attend and be punctual to all rostered clinic shifts. 

 The tasks to be assessed within this unit replicate the necessary skills and knowledge required to monitor and evaluate remedial massage treatments within the industry

 

 


Assessment Tasks

 

1. Clinic Skills Checklist (please see attached). This is to be completed during student clinic shifts. 

 The tasks to be assessed within this unit replicate the necessary skills and knowledge required to monitor and evaluate remedial massage treatments within the industry

2.  Clinic

  • Students must attend and be punctual to all rostered clinic shifts and WIL placements
  • Students will be assessed on treatments and clinic management within the student remedial massage clinic. In the student manual (available in student academic folder and Canvas) is a remedial massage treatment protocol document which outlines what is required to be deemed satisfactory for each session.
  • Outside placements with industry partners (WIL) - Supervised placement is required for your portfolio of evidence 

In order to gain competency in this course, students must complete ALL assessment activities AND gain a satisfactory mark in each assessment activity.
