Course Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to undertake a straightforward project or a section of a larger project. It covers developing a project plan, administering and monitoring the project, finalising the project and reviewing the project to identify lessons learned for application to future projects.
This unit applies to individuals who play a significant role in ensuring a project meets timelines, quality standards, budgetary limits and other requirements set for the project.
The unit does not apply to specialist project managers. For specialist project managers, the other units of competency in the project management field (BSBPMG) will be applicable.

A range of learning activities are planned for this course including online self-paced and collaborative classroom based activities.
The self-paced activities will be delivered through various technology platforms and may include your contribution to wikis and discussion threads, reflective journals, quizzes and interactive sessions.
The collaborative classroom based activities will include group discussion, group problem solving activities and opportunities to practice your skills in a simulated workplace environment.
We expect you to participate and contribute in all scheduled learning activities.

Overview of Assessment
In order to achieve competency in this unit, you must provide:
Performance Evidence
Evidence of the ability to:
define the parameters of the project including:
project scope
project stakeholders, including own responsibilities
relationship of project to organisational objectives and other projects
reporting requirements
resource requirements
use project management tools to develop and implement a project plan including:
deliverables
work breakdown
budget and allocation of resources
timelines
risk management
recordkeeping and reporting
consult and communicate with relevant stakeholders to generate input and engagement in planning, implementing and reviewing the project
provide support to team members to enable them to achieve deliverables and to transition them as appropriate at completion of the project
finalise the project including documentation, sign-offs and reporting
review and document the project outcomes.
Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.
Knowledge Evidence
To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:
give examples of project management tools and how they contribute to a project
outline types of documents and other sources of information commonly used in defining the parameters of a project
explain processes for identifying and managing risk in a project
outline the organisation's mission, goals, objectives and operations and how the project relates to them
explain the organisation's procedures and processes that are relevant to managing a project including:
lines of authority and approvals
quality assurance
human resources
budgets and finance
recordkeeping
reporting
outline the legislative and regulatory context of the organisation in relation to project work, including work health and safety (WHS) requirements.
Assessment Conditions
Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in the management and leadership – project management field of work and include access to:
relevant legislation, regulations, standards and codes
relevant workplace documentation and resources
case studies and, where possible, real situations
interaction with others.
Assessors must satisfy NVR/AQTF assessor requirements.

Feedback will be provided throughout the semester in class and/or online discussions. You are encouraged to ask and answer questions during class time and online sessions so that you can obtain feedback on your understanding of the concepts and issues being discussed. Finally, you can email or arrange an appointment with your teacher to gain more feedback on your progress.
You should take note of all feedback received and use this information to improve your learning outcomes and final performance in the course.

You are required to complete two (2) tasks. You must successfully complete all sections of both tasks to be deemed competent in this course.

Submission Requirements
You should:
Ensure that you submit assessments on or before the due date.
Always retain a copy of your assessment tasks (hard copy and soft copy)
When you submit work for assessment at RMIT University you need to use a cover sheet that includes a declaration and statement of authorship. You must complete, sign and submit a cover sheet with all work you submit for assessment, whether individual or group work. On the cover sheet you declare that the work you are presenting for assessment is your own work. An assignment cover sheet for submission of each assessment task is available on Blackboard.
Each page of your assessment should include a footer with your name, student number, the title of the assessment, unit code and title and page numbers. For example, Julie Macpherson, 345678, Task 2, OHS2345C Ensure a safe workplace.
Late Submission Procedures
You are required to submit assessment items and/or ensure performance based assessment is completed by the due dates.
If you are prevented from submitting an assessment item on time, by circumstances outside your control, you may apply in advance to your teacher for an extension to the due date of up to seven calendar days.

Resubmissions (VE Programs)
If you are found to be unsuccessful in a Course Assessment Task (or you do not submit/attend) you will be allowed one resubmission only. Your teacher will provide feedback regarding what you need to do to improve and will set a new deadline for the resubmission.
If you are still not meeting the assessment requirements you must apply to your Program Manager in writing outlining the steps you will take to demonstrate competence in your course. Your submission will be considered by the Program Team and you will be advised of the outcome as soon as possible.
Grading and re-submissions
Re-submissions do not contribute to your overall grade for the course.

There are three sessions for this unit each week. The first session will be face-to-face, the second session is online by logging on to your Program Blackboard Shell and the third session will be face-to-face. You should ensure you complete the second session online materials before the third weekly session, as one session builds upon the knowledge and skills of previous sessions and is linked to the assessments.
