Course Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to review corporate governance requirements, implement internal control operating procedures, and monitor associated policy.
It applies to individuals who use specialised knowledge and analytical skills to ensure organisational procedures, compliance and quality requirements are met.
Work functions in the occupational areas where this unit may be used are subject to regulatory requirements. Refer to the FNS Financial Services Training Package Companion Volume Implementation Guide or the relevant regulator for specific guidance on regulatory requirements.

A range of learning activities are planned for this course including self-paced and collaborative classroom based activities.
The self paced activities will be delivered through various technology platforms and include your contribution through reflective journals, quizzes and interactive practice firm sessions.
The collaborative classroom based activities will include group discussion, group problem solving activities and opportunities to practice your skills in a simulated practice firm environment.
We expect you to participate and contribute in all scheduled learning activities.

Performance Evidence
Evidence of the ability to:
- interpret and comply with corporate governance requirements, organisational policy, and financial delegations and accountabilities
- review corporate governance requirements and implement effective operating procedures to ensure organisational compliance
- use a range of methods, work practices and routines relevant to internal control procedures
- monitor internal control operating procedures and applicable financial legislation.
Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.
Knowledge Evidence
The candidate must be able to demonstrate the following knowledge to effectively complete the tasks outlined in the elements and performance criteria of this unit, and to manage tasks and reasonably foreseeable contingencies in the context of the work role.
- Ethical and confidentiality considerations when managing and handling files and records
- Key features of financial legislation relating to financial transactions and reporting requirements
- Benefits and limitations of internal controls and potential consequences of poor internal controls for internal operations
- Key requirements of organisational policies and procedures relating to:
- corporate governance
- financial delegations and accountabilities
- Key principles of internal control and auditing
Assessment Conditions
Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in the accounting field of work and include access to:
- office equipment, technology, software and consumables required to implement internal and maintain internal control procedures
- corporate governance documentation required for role
- organisational operational policies and procedures required for role.
Assessors of this unit must satisfy the assessor requirements in applicable vocational education and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
You are advised that you are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate your assessment work to your teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.

Feedback will be provided throughout the semester in class and/or online discussions. You are encouraged to ask and answer questions during class time and online sessions so that you can obtain feedback on your understanding of the concepts and issues being discussed. Finally, you can email or arrange an appointment with your teacher to gain more feedback on your progress.

Assessment Tasks
There will be 2 assessments in this course, and both must be satisfactorily completed in order for competency to be awarded:
1. Corporate Collapse Research and Presentation assignment (Due date: week 6)
For this individual assessment you are required to make a presentation in front of the class, on an Australian Company that has collapsed within the last 10 years. You will be assessing whether the company collapsed because of fraud, poor internal controls of poor management.
2. Practice Firm Internal Controls Assignment (Due date: week 14)
The Internal Audit manager of the Practice Firm wants you to work with one of your colleagues (Team of 2), to provide feedback on the various internal control/Corporate Governance and audit issues that have been identified in the current review of key the business processes and then to provide a written report on your recommendations back to the manager.
Please note that throughout the semester you will also be required to complete a number of short quizzes relating to each of the key subject topics. These will be conducted in class and consist of a variety of Multiple Choice/ True and False and short answer questions that will take approx 30 minutes to complete. The objective of the quizzes will be to test your knowledge and understanding of the Topics.

The Teacher or Course Coordinator may request anytime to ask students to demonstrate and/or reproduce assessments to validate authenticity. AND
Students must get competency in all the assessment tasks in order to obtain competency in this course.

Submission Requirements
You should:
• Ensure that you submit assessments on or before the due date.
• Always retain a copy of your assessment tasks. (hard copy and soft copy)
• When you submit work for assessment at RMIT University you need to use the Assessment task document that includes a declaration and statement of authorship.a cover sheet that includes a declaration and statement of authorship. .
• Each page of your assessment should include footer with your name, student number, the title of the assessment, unit code and title and page numbers.
Late Submission Procedures
You are required to submit assessment items and/or ensure performance based assessment is completed by the due dates.
If you are prevented from submitting an assessment item on time, by circumstances outside your control, you may apply in advance to your teacher for an extension to the due date of up to seven calendar days.

Resubmissions (VET Programs):
If you are found to be unsuccessful in a particular Course Assessment Task (or you do not submit/attend) you will be allowed one resubmission. Your teacher will provide feedback regarding what you need to do to improve and will set a new deadline for the resubmission.
If you are still not meeting the assessment requirements you must apply to your Program Manager in writing outlining the steps you will take to demonstrate competence in your course. Your submission will be considered by the Program Team and you will be advised of the outcome as soon as possible.
Grading & re-submissions
Successful re-submissions will contribute a CAG only (Competency Achieved Grading) result to your overall grade for the course.
