Course Description
The unit covers design and development of predominantly text-based documents using advanced features of document design software.

Text document structure and layout are designed to suit the purpose, audience and information requirements of the task. Text document is designed to enhance readability and appearance and meet organisational task requirements for style and layout. Stylesheets and automatic functions are used to ensure consistency of design and layout. |

Organisational requirements for text-based business documents are identifed to ensure consistency of style and image. Task requirements for the design of text-based business documents are determined to meet organisation purposes. |

Advanced software functions are used to enable efficient production of text documents. Text and other data are entered or imported, and edited to meet requirement specifications. Text documents are previewed adjusted and printed in accordance with organisational and task requirements. |

Workspace, furniture and equipment are adjusted to suit the ergonomic requirements of the user. Work organisation meets organisational and statutory requirements for computer operation. Learning activities will include class-based discussions and practical exercises using MS Word 2003 in order to develop competency. Students will learn advanced MS Word functions for use in the business environment.

Overview of Assessment
Students must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of a particular competency to be deemed competent. Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievements of each competency in a flexible manner. Students will complete a portfolio of evidence which includes business documents created throughout the program as well as completing documents in class under test conditions.
Students are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assement work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.
In addition to the assessments, formative feedback is provided to the students throughout the duration of the course.
Assessment Tasks
First semester only:
Assessment 1 – due Week 13 (25%)
Students will write an application letter and submit their resume for an advertised position. The position must be relevant and suitable for their application after finishing the Advanced Diploma of Business (Legal Practice) and must be authorised by their teacher in Week 9. This assessment cannot be accepted if the position vacant is not authorised by their teacher. Students will be assessed on the formatting technique, layout and design, content and proofreading of both their letter and resume, part assessment of all elements of competency.
Assessment 2 – In-class test Week 16 (20%)
Students will complete a practical test, open book to be held in normal class time during Week 16, part assessment of all elements of competency.
