Course Description

This unit covers the necessary skills and knowledge to use CAD to produce multi-view, multi-scale detail and assembly drawings to AS 1100, including the creation and use of library parts and the use of third party software.

1. Produce multi-view and multi-scale drawings

Performance Criteria:

1.1 A multi-view drawing is produced from an unscaled 2D model.
1.2 Detail views are produced at different scales from an unscaled 2D model.


2. Create and use library parts and files.

Performance Criteria:

2.1 Library parts/elements suitable for standardisation are constructed and saved
2.2 Each library component is inserted at a specific scale and orientation to predefined locations in a drawing.
2.3 Library parts are modified after insertion
2.4 Library parts are modified and redefined


3. Attach attribute data to library parts

Performance Criteria:

3.1 The type of data to be attached is formulated and defined
3.2 The relevant parameters are set in order that the required data can be entered and attached to each part.
3.3 The data is entered for each part as it is inserted in the drawing.
3.4 The data is modified and updated as necessary


4. Extract and manipulate data from a drawing

Performance Criteria:

4.1 Data is extracted from a drawing.
4.2 Extracted data is inserted into destination files in spreadsheets, databases and word processing files.
4.3 Data is formatted in the destination file for analysis or presentation.
4.4 Data is analysed for a specific purpose.


5. Construct assembly drawings to AS 1100 by the use of library files

Performance Criteria:

5.1 Library files are combined to form an assembly drawing
5.2 Unwanted entities (such as dimensions) in a library file are removed from view in the assembly drawing
5.3 Library files are linked to the assembly drawing file
5.4 A library file is updated within the assembly drawing or the library file drawing.


6. Create entities in a 3D drawing environment.

Performance Criteria:

6.1 Simple 3D CAD models are created using lines, arcs and circles.
6.2 The coordinate system is moved and orientated to facilitate the placing of entities in the 3D environment.
6.3 Simple solid objects are created through the use of primitive solids and extruding and revolving groups of entities.


7. Add entities to a 3D CAD model.

Performance Criteria:

7.1 Entities are added to a 3D model to meet the specific requirements of the project.
7.2 Sectional and other views are generated from a 3D model.

Details of Learning Activities

Students will use the Planning and Time Management chart in the learning material to assist them through the course. The chart lists all your topics and their learning outcomes, and the activities and assessments to complete. This course runs for an 8 week duration (approximately 4 hours per week) consisting of both; in-class time and out of hours study. Students are expected to complete the project assessment either during scheduled class time or in their own time.

Students will submit their assessment projects and activities as indicated in the Learning Guide and feedback on activities and assessments will be provided during and after submission.

All work must be presented as specified by your teacher and as per the instructions in the learning guide. Students are required to be professional in both presentation and attitude, including meeting of deadlines. Plagiarism is strictly forbidden. Overview of Assessment
