Course Description
This unit deals with the knowledge, skills, values and behaviors required to apply periodontal dressings, and to remove periodontal dressings and sutures post surgically.

Details of Learning Activities
Attendance of lectures and tutorials
Research:
• Materials used for periodontal dressings
• Indications and Contraindications
Participate in simulated setting for:
• Placement of periodontal dressings
• Removal of periodontal dressing
Rotation through specialists clinics:
• Observing placement and removal of periodontal packs and suture removal in a clinical setting
• Assisting with the preparation of surgery and materials for these procedures.
In the supervised clinical environment :
• Preparation of surgery and materials
• Removal and placement of periodontal dressings
• Removal of sutures
• Post-operative care and instructions
Teaching Schedule
Classes will commence in Semester 2 and be delivered in 3 hour blocks. Each class will include teacher led presentations, workbook activities, group collaboration and self directed learning opportunities.
This unit will include a practical component in the pre-clinical lab and in the clinic
