Details of Learning Activities
This course is structured to provide you with the optimum learning experience. A range of learning activities are provided during the semester and are designed to enhance learning and understanding of the topics.
You will be required to participate in a combination of group and individual learning activities. These activities will be provided through classroom work time and additional learning activities will be provided to you to complete outside of the scheduled class time.
A range of in class activities, case studies and independent research is included as the learning activities for this course. We expect you to participate and contribute in all scheduled learning activities.
The learning activities will also include group discussion, group problem solving activities and opportunities to practice your skills in a simulated workplace environment.

Overview of Assessment
Assessment may incorporate a variety of methods including technical requirements documentation, homework, assignments, group and/or individual projects, in class exercises, written and practical assessments, problem solving exercises, presentations, direct observation of actual and simulated work practice, presentation of a portfolio of evidence which may comprise documents, and/or photographs and/or video and audio files, review of products produced through work-based or course activities.
Students are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met. Students will be provided with feedback throughout the course to check their progress.

Assessment 1
Task Name: Business Plan Development
Duration and/or due date: This assessment task is to be completed by week 4 (2 Aug., Sunday 11.59pm) of commencing this unit.
Summary and Purpose of Assessment
This project is the first of three assessment tasks you need to complete satisfactorily, in order to be deemed competent for this unit. Completing this project allows you to demonstrate your ability to run a business operation and covers the steps required to develop and implement a business plan.
Assessment Instructions
You must document a business plan for a business idea or activity.
What
You are required to submit a written business proposal (using the template supplied) which will be an overview of a business idea. The business idea could be something you have worked on in other classes, or be a new activity, department or similar within an existing business.
Assessment 2
Task Name: Business Plan Implementation
Duration and/or due date: This assessment task is to be completed by week 13 (13 Sep., Sunday 11.59pm) of commencing this unit.
Summary and Purpose of Assessment
This project is the second of three assessment tasks you need to complete satisfactorily, in order to be deemed competent for this unit. Completing this project allows you to demonstrate your ability to run a business operation and covers the steps required to develop and implement a business plan.
Assessment Instructions
You must implement the business plan from AT1 and report on performance.
What
This task follows on from Assessment Task 1.
You must now implement your accepted business plan by communicating the requirements to stakeholders, planning for labour, undertaking performance management using appropriate systems and reporting on the outcomes.
You will need to address the criteria in the Marking Guide at Section B of this assessment. You should use this to plan and carry out all activities and identify what needs to be recorded, collated and submitted to your assessor for review.
Assessment 3
Task Name: Business Plan Report
Duration and/or due date: This assessment task is to be completed by week 15 (25 Oct., Sunday 11.59pm) of commencing this unit.
Summary and Purpose of Assessment
This project is the third of three assessment tasks you need to complete satisfactorily, in order to be deemed competent for this unit. Completing this project allows you to demonstrate your ability to run a business operation and covers the steps required to develop and implement a business plan.
Assessment Instructions
You must monitor your business plan implementation activities to identify opportunities for improvement.
What
This task follows on from Assessment Tasks 1 and 2.
You must collate a portfolio of evidence to address the criteria in the Marking Guide at Section B of this assessment.
You will need to continue to implement and embed your business plan within your business context and track your progress against the plans as you do so. You will use this information to:
- Undertake different types of monitoring activities
- Improve the performance of the human resources and stakeholders involved in the activity
- Identify ways to improving, and undertaking the improvement, of the plans, schedules, communications and other aspects of the business plan.
- Analyse your own performance in business planning and implementation to identify ways to improve performance in the future.
You will need to collect, analyse and interpret a range of information and make assumptions, where necessary, to complete these tasks. Where assumptions are necessary, you must indicate this in your findings.
Collate your collected documents into a single PDF for submission, using labelling to indicate where each criteria is addressed.

Submission Requirements
You should:
- Ensure that you submit assessments on or before the due date. Non submission without supporting evidence such as ELP or special consideration will mean a result of Did Not Submit (DNS)
- Always retain a copy of your assessment tasks. (hard copy and soft copy)
- When you submit work for assessment at RMIT University you need to use the Assessment task document that includes a declaration and statement of authorship.
- Each page of your assessment should include footer with your name, student number, the title of the assessment, unit code and title and page numbers.

Late Submission Procedures
You are required to submit assessment items and/or ensure performance based assessment is completed by the due dates.
If you are prevented from submitting an assessment item on time, by circumstances outside your control, you may apply in advance to your teacher for an extension to the due date of up to seven calendar days.

Where an extension of greater than seven days is needed, you must apply for Special Consideration. Applications for special consideration must be submitted no later than two working days after the assessment task deadline or scheduled examination.

Resubmissions:
If you are found to be unsuccessful in a particular Course Assessment Task (or you do not submit/attend) you will be allowed one resubmission. Your teacher will provide feedback regarding what you need to do to improve and will set a new deadline for the resubmission.
If you are still not meeting the assessment requirements you must apply to your Program Manager in writing outlining the steps you will take to demonstrate competence in your course. Your submission will be considered by the Program Team and you will be advised of the outcome as soon as possible.
Grading & re-submissions
Successful re-submissions will contribute a CA (Competency Achieved) result to your overall grade for the course.

Plagiarism
Plagiarism is a form of cheating in assessment and may occur in oral, written or visual presentations. It is the presentation of the work, idea or creation of another person, without appropriate referencing, as though it is your own.
The penalties for cheating in assessment are severe, whether the cheating involves plagiarism, fabrication, falsification of data, copyright infringement or some other method. Penalties can include charges of academic misconduct, cancellation of results and exclusion from your course. Group Assessment
A number of your assessments will rely upon group work. This is a critical part of your program as in the workplace you will be regularly required to work in a team environment. Teamwork is also one of the key employability skills for this qualification.
The key to being successful in group work is getting to know your classmates and finding out what they want to achieve. You should seek to find a team which shares your key interests and drivers.
