Course Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to design and produce various business documents and publications. It includes selecting and using a range of functions on a variety of computer applications.
This unit applies to individuals who possess fundamental skills in computer operations and keyboarding. They may exercise discretion and judgement using appropriate theoretical knowledge of document design and production to provide technical advice and support to a team.

Overview of Assessment
Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit
In order to demonstrate competency in this unit, you must provide evidence of:
* designing and producing a minimum of 3 completed business documents, using at least 2 software applications in the production of each document
* using appropriate data storage options
* knowledge of the functions and features of contemporary computer applications.
Context for assessment
Assessment must ensure:
* access to an actual workplace or simulated environment
* access to office equipment and resources
* access to examples of style guides and organisational procedures.
You are advised that you are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate your assessment work to your teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.
Feedback
Feedback will be provided throughout the semester in class and/or online discussions. You are encouraged to ask and answer questions during class time and online sessions so that you can obtain feedback on your understanding of the concepts and issues being discussed.
Assessment Tasks
The assessment tasks will ensure that you are able to demonstrate the following:
- Designing and producing a minimum of 3 completed business documents, using at least 2 software applications in the production of each document
- Using appropriate data storage options
- Knowledge of the functions and features of contemporary computer applications
- Quiz - will be an online questionnaire to be completed in class to assess knowledge of selecting and preparing resources to produce business documents according to organisational requirements.
- Business Document Activities– This assessment consists of the 2 activities. In activity 1 students will design a letter template and produce letter from template using RMIT Legal Practice Style Guide. In Activity 2 students will format report and share Excel data in the report.
- Portfolio Assessment – Students will create Workplace Health and Safety report, format report according to RMIT Legal Practice Style Guide, create Mail Merge and Power Point presentation. Students will focus on the practical component of developing and using a range of advanced functions within MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint to design, produce and finalise documents.
You must satisfactorily complete all assessment tasks to achieve competency.

Late Submission Procedures You are required to submit assessment items and/or ensure performance based assessment is completed by the due dates. If you are prevented from submitting an assessment item on time, by circumstances outside your control, you may apply in advance to your teacher for an extension to the due date of up to seven calendar days.
