Top of pagePurpose of the Program
The objective of the Bachelor of Information Technology program is to enable you to develop the knowledge and skills that are essential to working as a competent software developer within the information technology industry.
This program educates you to build a career solving, supporting, troubleshooting and designing software– from web sites to business applications to programming networks – in organisations ranging from commercial businesses and government to schools, NGO's and more. You will gain an excellent combination of knowledge and practical, hands-on expertise to influence an organisation’s software infrastructure and the clients who use IT.
As a graduate of this program, you may be responsible for selecting and deploying software products appropriate for commercial organisations, software development companies, government departments and large computer organisations. You may also create and manage business applications, web sites, systems and environments.
This program allows you to do a minor stream of courses from one of the following areas: Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, Mobile & Web Development, Cloud Technologies, and DevOps (Development & Operations). In addition to the core IT skills, these minor streams will assist you to attain skills useful in the workplace and adapt easily with the operational workflow of an enterprise.
COSC2717 Programming Project 1 and COSC2718 Programming Project 2 are the capstone programming project courses in the final (third) year of the program. These projects will provide you with experience under supervision in the development lifecycle of a substantial piece of software - integrating practice and theory, or a pure research project to enable you to solve a real problem affecting the IT industry today or investigating an area of interest under supervision.

Pathways from this program include MC208 Master of Information Technology and MC061 Master of Computer Science, both offered in Melbourne. Eligibility is subject to standard program entry requirements

Very Important: This plan is being phased out.
BP162OPVH- Bachelor of Information Technology plan has been discontinued and will no longer accept new students from trimester 3 2023.
The Academic entry criteria for the program are as follows:
(a) Minimum average score of 7.0 from Final year Senior High School and the provision of the Bang tot nghiep trung hoc pho thong (Upper Secondary School Graduation Diploma – Trung Binh/Kha/Gioi)
Must have minimum score of 6.5 or above for technology studies and mathematics.
OR
(b) Alternative secondary school qualifications equivalent to Australian year 12 with an average result of at least 70%
OR
(c) An approved diploma in Computer Science or Information Technology from a recognised Vietnamese Higher Education Institution where the language of instruction is English.
OR
(d) Any other equivalent qualifications or combination of qualifications and experience as assessed by RMIT University on a case by case basis
The English language entry criteria for the programs are:
Applicants must provide evidence of at least ONE of the following:
IELTS - 6.5 (no band less than 6.0)
TOEFL - Paper-Based = 580 (TWE 4.5)
TOEFL - Computer-Based = 237 (TWE 4.5)
TOEFL - internet-Based (iBT) = 92, minimum 20 in all sections
Successful completion of a recognised approved Diploma where the language of instruction was English, as noted above in academic entry criteria.
Except for the English language requirements as stated above, applicants with other equivalent qualifications may be considered on a case-by-case basis, with final approval by the relevant Head of School at RMIT.
RMIT University decisions regarding the admission of applicants to the programs will be final.

The School of Science has a very strong Industry Advisory Committee that is the main link to industry. Membership includes staff from major IT companies with global and local presence. The Committee meets quarterly and provides feedback on the currency of our programs, the changing needs of Industry and has input into the design of new programs.
Professional Associations: The Australian Computer Society has strong ties to the School of Science with a senior member on our Industry Advisory Committee.

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees. Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.
