Purpose of the Program

The Bachelor of Project Management (Honours) will develop your broad and specialised knowledge of project management. The courses in this program have been designed to enable you to develop and apply your theoretical and practice-based knowledge to achieve effective project management. You will be able to conceptualise a project, develop a project plan, implement a project and analyse project outcomes. You will develop your expert knowledge of specialised areas within project management including project planning, quality management, risk analysis, procurement, stakeholder management, project evaluation and financial analysis. You will critically engage with project management theory and best practice principles and evaluate and implement project management strategies as appropriate to the industry and organisational context. You will be able to apply project management and problem-solving skills to effectively address industry needs and priorities and be equipped to contribute effectively to the leadership and project management of projects.

Upon successful completion of this program, you will be able to critically analyse and respond to diverse client needs. You will be experienced in collaborating with diverse project stakeholders and be able to interpret new developments and theoretical knowledge to inform your decision making as a project management professional. You will be equipped to contribute your specialised knowledge and expertise to project teams and utilise your skills and knowledge to realise project outcomes and deliverables.

As a graduate of this program, you will be able to perform a broad spectrum of roles that project management entails, ranging from working on project teams to leading them, in a diverse range of domains.

The program will develop your discipline based and interdisciplinary knowledge of project management practice and principles in a range of organisational contexts and industry settings. Your program also includes the opportunity to take a minor stream of study. A minor is a grouping of courses that runs parallel with your core courses, developing your ability to see professional practices within a specific social, technological and economic context. Through the completion of a minor within the program you will be equipped to apply your practice-based knowledge, skills and expertise to diverse industries within the field of project management, which may include construction management, property, manufacturing, infrastructure, finance, business, IT and event management. Students may seek advice from the School of Property, Construction and Project Management when selecting which minor to complete.

In the research courses, BUIL1305 Research Methods for the Built Environment, BUIL1306 Research Practice 1 and BUIL1307 Research Practice 2, you will develop and complete a research report and develop the skills and knowledge required to conduct independent and collaborative research to support your further study and professional practice.  In the final year, you will complete a project-based capstone course BUSM4817 Project Management Capstone in which you will synthesise and integrate your knowledge and skills, connect theory and practice, as well as demonstrate your holistic understanding of the program's learning outcomes.

The delivery of this program is primarily face to face, in which students are recognised as active participants in the learning process, supplemented by online delivery designed with a student experience focus. Where possible, experiential learning opportunities are offered, for example: site visits, field trips, community and industry engagement, and may include career development events such as careers fairs and industry expos.

Successful completion of this program equips you with skills for working in local and global contexts, supports your further learning and research, and provides a pathway into a Masters degree at RMIT University.
