Purpose of the Program
The overall objective of the Bachelor of Health Science / Bachelor of Applied Science (Chinese Medicine) double degree program is to prepare you to become a professionally competent and responsible Chinese Medicine practitioner who is eligible to be registered by the CMRB/CMBA. The Program also aims to provide you with the qualifications necessary to become a member of Chinese medicine professional associations.
The program is designed as a holistic, integrated five-year sequence, which will skill you for entry into the Chinese Medicine profession. It is not possible to exit the program with a single three year degree in either Health or Applied Science.
The final year of the program prepares you for employment with capstone courses COTH2129 Supervised Clinical Practice 2 and COTH2042 Clinical Internship.This combination of theoretical knowledge, practical skills, clinical experience and recognised qualifications aims to prepare you for a career in Chinese medicine which may involve independent practice, employment in a multi-discipline health care clinic, teaching and/or research.
You will be provided with opportunities to employ the knowledge and skills in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine that you acquire from this program in clinical practice at the RMIT Teaching Clinic. In addition, during the internship you will experience practice in a public hospital in China and acquire skills in the management of a wide range of disorders. Fluency in the Chinese language is not a requirement for this Internship practicum.
This program is offered in face-to-face mode (on campus), with support for flexible learning where appropriate. While most courses in the program are delivered on campus, others are delivered online.

Articulation and pathways
If you successfully complete the BP278, Bachelor of Health Science / Bachelor of Applied Science (Chinese Medicine) you may be eligible to apply for the MC024 Master of Applied Science (Acupuncture) program or the Master by Research. These awards may lead to eligibility to apply for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Speak to your Program Manager or refer to the RMIT website for further information.

Successful completion of an Australian Year 12 senior secondary certificate of education or equivalent.

Prerequisites
Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) prerequisite units 3 and 4 — a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in any other English.
English language requirements
A minimum IELTS (Academic module) overall score of 6.5, with no band below 6.0; or equivalent.

The Bachelor of Health Science / Bachelor of Applied Science (Chinese Medicine) double degree program is designed as a primary qualifying undergraduate program in Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine that provides you with the knowledge and skills you require for entry into the Chinese medicine profession.
Accreditation
This program is accredited by the Chinese Medicine Accreditation Committee (CMAC), the accrediting body for the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia (CMBA). Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are entitled to apply to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), Chinese Medicine Board of Australia for registration to practice as an Chinese Medicine Practitioner in Australia.

National registration of Chinese Medicine practitioners (including acupuncturists, Chinese herbal medicine practitioners and herbal medicine dispensers) was introduced in 1 July 2012. This program is approved by the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia (CMBA).
Industry Links
RMIT's Discipline of Chinese Medicine has engaged in extensive consultation in the development of its programs since their inception in 1993. Senior Chinese Medicine staff at RMIT have made significant contributions to the achievement of registration for Chinese Medicine practitioners in Victoria and nationally and have been active in the development of educational and practice guidelines following extensive consultation periods. Consultation has also been conducted through the RMIT Chinese Medicine Industry Advisory Committee and major professional associations throughout the program development process.
In addition, RMIT University has established an extensive network of practitioners and public hospitals for you to experience clinical observation during your studies and/or undertake part of your clinical practicum.

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees.
