Purpose of the Program
This program, BP309 Bachelor of Design (Digital Media), offers you a degree in the design and production of digital media. It combines theory with practical industry-based knowledge and professional skills in the broad field of digital media design and development. In the program you will develop a digital media design specialisation in either interactive media, digital video, digital sound or digital environments.
With a clear focus on design, the program provides you with opportunities to explore diverse aspects of digital media. You will gain a contextual overview of the role of digital media in society and a strong grounding in digital media literacy. You will explore aspects such as:
- web and app design
- visual effects, compositing and motion graphics
- interactive mobile media design
- sound design
- virtual reality and augmented reality
- projection and digital installations
You will experience a variety of interactive learning and teaching approaches. These will be both face-to-face and online, with the main focus on studio-based practice. These approaches are supported by industry-standard software, tools and production processes. You will engage in individual and team-based projects. These projects will challenge your creative engagement in design and development of digital media.
In the final year of this program you will have the opportunity to undertake an internship or major project as a capstone experience. In this you will apply the knowledge and skills acquired in the program.
On completion of the program you will be a professional practitioner, in the design and development of digital media. You will be able to develop content for the design, communications, business and entertainment industries. This will involve analysing issues, applying creative processes, working with others, and communicating ideas. You will apply informed judgment to problems in digital media, to innovative design, and to conceptual development and production.
Graduates of this program will be prepared for diverse roles. These can be both local and international. The range includes: web and interactive media development, information visualisation, communications and interface design. Graduates may also work in specialised video production design roles, such as visual effects and motion graphics design.
