The Certificate II in Electrotechnology Studies (Pre-Vocational) is a pre-apprenticeship program structured to assist you to gain an edge when competing for employment as an apprentice or trainee in the electrical, refrigeration, instrumentation and electronics fields.
The course provides an overview of the industry, employment opportunities and the training pathways available. It also includes training in the basic fundamentals of electrical, telecommunication, refrigeration and air conditioning systems as well as workshop experience in fabrication and assembly techniques, wiring, cabling, basic installation skills and use of test equipment. Workplace safety and first aid training are also included.
The program is a mix of theory and practical application of basic skills and knowledge required in the electrotechnology industry. Assessment methods include theory tests, projects and practical activities.

Students who successfully complete the program will receive credit for the majority of the first year of the Certificate III in Electrical or Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration apprenticeship. There are no specific entrance requirements for this training package program but applicants who have literacy and numeracy skills that are equivalent to Level 2 of the Australian Core Skill Framework (ACSF) are best equipped to achieve the outcomes of this program.
As part of the RMIT enrolment process you will be required to sit a literacy and numeracy assessment to help structure a learning program suitable for your specific needs.

Indigenous Students
We also offer a friendly and supportive environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander learners can gain support and encouragement from the Ngarara William Centre. Ngarara Willim means ‘gathering place’ in the language of the Wurundjeri, the traditional custodians of the land where RMIT stands. Staff can assist learners to engage and re-engage with education. They offer ongoing guidance with study, living and cultural needs.
