Purpose of the Program
The Certificate III in Apparel, Fashion and Textiles is designed to provide students with skills and capabilities in sewing, patternmaking and industry practices for making clothes, or to pursue further studies in fashion and textile design. This program replaces the previous Certificate III in Clothing Production, however the outcomes are closely aligned.
The program provides students with a broad understanding of the garment production in an enterprise as well as equipping the student with skills needed to use patterns, to cut, sew and finish garments and to do garment repairs and alterations. The program is designed to prepare students for their transition into employment as work ready individuals, and/or further education.

This program is built from information gathered from an Industry Advisory Committee (IAC) at RMIT that consists of high profile industry representatives. The IAC represents the textiles, clothing and footwear industry, and advises on training delivery and assessment and is designed to ensure the program is aligned with current industry standards and practice. In addition, trainers into this program are required to have extensive experience working in the clothing production industry.

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees. Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.

As a student enrolled in a program at RMIT University you can access the extensive services, facilities and study space provided by the library. You can access books, journals and other course related materials, such as DVDs, past exams, newspapers and e-books. Through our document delivery service you can also request items from any library in the world.
Computers for study are available at every Library site, where you can access the Internet, myRMIT (www.rmit.edu.au/myrmit) or Library e-resources. If you have a laptop you can access the RMIT University wireless network in the Library.
Library staff can show you how to find information for your assignments or you can work through web-based tutorials or use our online Ask a Librarian service.

Industry based production rooms with industrial machinery and pattern making facilities are used in classes'.
Computing facilities are available to you in the Computer Labs in Building 512. You will be able to access a full suite of RMITs computer programs.
