Purpose of the Program

Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance that is being delivered by RMIT trains you to provide support to allied health professionals like physiotherapists and occupational therapists. If you are interested in developing skills for working in the health industry, this program is ideal.

Through the program you will develop the required knowledge, skills and attitudes to:

  • perform relevant allied health interventions under the guidance of an allied health professional
  • provide care and comfort for individuals receiving allied health treatments
  • apply standard precautions to control cross-infection and safely dispose of infectious waste
  • complete and interpret documents relating to the services undertaken by allied health assistants
  • provide effective services when dealing with internal and external customers and clients.

You will gain the objectives  of the program  through regular participation in practical  face to face classes, lectures, online classes, clinical practice, work integrated learning and practice study groups.

Articulation and pathways

Successful completion of the RMIT C4428 Certificate IV Allied Health Assistance guarantees entry into the AD019P24 Associate Degree Health Science

Successful completion of the RMIT C4428 Certificate IV Allied Health guarantees entry into the C5426 Diploma Remedial Massage with 2 UoC of exemptions.

Entrance requirements


Applicants must be 18 years or above at the time of commencement.

There are no minimum academic requirements.However please note that you have to submit a personal statement:
 
Mandatory Personal Statement
 Applicants must submit a personal statement outlining:

  • your reasons for wanting to study the Certificate IV in Allied Health
  • details of any related work or voluntary experience
  • briefly describe your understanding of the role of an Allied Health Assistant 
  • have you read and understood the inherent requirements of the program

 

Working with Children Check and Police Check

After enrolling into the program you will be required to hold a Working with Children Check and a Police Check prior to undertaking clinical components of this program. You must meet a number of Immunisation requirements upon commencement of their studies in the program.

Failure to obtain satisfactory checks may result in you being unable to complete this program.

Student expenses and charges in addition to fees

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees.  Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.

Library, IT and specialist resources

Library resources and services

As a student enrolled in a program at RMIT University you can access the extensive services, facilities and study space provided by the Library. You can access books, journals and other course related materials, such as DVDs, past exams, newspapers and e-books. Through our document delivery service you can also request items from any library in the world.

Computers for study are available at every Library site, where you can access the Internet, myRMIT (www.rmit.edu.au/myrmit) or Library e-resources. If you have a laptop you can access the RMIT University wireless network in the Library

Library staff can show you how to find information for your assignments or you can work through web-based tutorials or use our online Ask a Librarian service. The Library is continually expanding our electronic collections to make it easier for you to get the information you need when you need it. All RMIT University students have unlimited access to quality electronic resources such as, e-books, e-journals and newspapers.
