Purpose of the Program

This qualification reflects the role of individuals in a variety of information and communications technology (ICT) roles who have established specialised skills in a technical ICT function. Individuals in these roles carry out moderately complex tasks in a specialist field, working independently, as part of a team or leading a deliverable with others.

They may apply their skills across a wide range of industries, business functions and departments, or as a business owner (sole trader/contractor)

Articulation and pathways

Articulation agreements between RMIT University programs enable you upon graduating from an RMIT University qualification to apply for advanced standing in a higher level qualification.

The statements below provide you with information about articulation agreements with this program. Upon successful completion of the C5402CS Diploma of Information Technology- Cyber Security (ICT50220) program students are guaranteed entry to undertake further studies in one of the following programs at RMIT University. 

  • RMIT's Associate Degree in Information Technology with 1 year credit (96 credit points).
  •  RMIT’s Bachelor of Business with up to 96 credit points of exemptions (equivalent to up to 1-year full-time study).
  • RMIT’s Bachelor of Business Professional Practice with up to 96 credit points of exemptions (equivalent up to 1-year full-time study).

Entrance requirements

For domestic cohorts 

Minimum Academic requirement 

- Successful completion of Australian Year 12 or equivalent 

OR 

- Completion of Post-Secondary studies (including Certificate III) 

OR 

- Successful completion of the Australian Senior VCAL Certificate 

- Alternate Entry - Work experience requirement 

 - At least 6 months work experience in a related field 

For international cohorts  

All direct overseas student applicants to RMIT are assessed to ensure they meet the appropriate language proficiency at the pre-engagement stage by specialist staff in the RMIT Admissions team. This is undertaken prior to issuing Student Offers and Confirmation of Enrolment for Student Visa purposes. These assessments by RMIT admissions are mapped from globally recognised language testing conventions to RMIT IELTS entry requirements for the program. Individual language assessments for each student are retained in Studylink and can be obtained from the International Admissions Team via:  intladmissions@rmit.edu.au 

To study this program, applicants will need to complete one of the following English proficiency tests: 

  • IELTS (Academic): minimum overall band of 5.5 (with no individual band below 5.0) 
  • TOEFL (Internet Based Test - IBT): minimum overall score of 50 (with a minimum of 5 in Reading, 5 in Listening, 14 in Speaking and 15 in Writing) 
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE (A)): minimum score of 42 (with no communication band less than 36) 
  • C1 Advanced: minimum of 162 with no less than 154 in any component.

Information Technology Program Advisory Committee

The Future Technology cluster has a very strong Industry Advisory Committee, which is the main link between the program and industry. Membership includes staff from ICT Industries based locally. The committee provides feedback on the currency of our programs, and the changing needs of industry and has input into the design of new programs. It also actively contributes to the cluster through participation in industrial seminars and visits, marketing events, industry awards and scholarships.

Student expenses and charges in addition to fees

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees.  Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of  textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.

Library, IT and specialist resources

Library resources and services

As a student enrolled in a program at RMIT University, you can access the extensive services, facilities and study space provided by the library.  You can access books, journals and other course-related materials, such as DVDs, past exams, newspapers and e-books.  Through our document delivery service, you can also request items from any library in the world.

Computers for study are available at every Library site, where you can access the Internet, myRMIT (www.rmit.edu.au/myrmit) or Library e-resources.  If you have a laptop you can access the RMIT University wireless network in the Library.  Library staff can show you how to find information for your assignments or you can work through web-based tutorials or use our online Ask A Librarian service.

The library is continually expanding our electronic collections to make it easier for you to get the information you need when you need it.  All RMIT University students have unlimited access to quality electronic resources such as e-books, e-journals and newspapers.
