Purpose of the Program
The Diploma of Marketing and Communication will provide you with a sound theoretical knowledge base in marketing and communication. It will also give you the skills to demonstrate a range of managerial skills to ensure that marketing-related functions are effectively conducted in an organisation or business area.
The units delivered in the program focus on the following key aspects:
- Interpret market trends and developments
- Design and develop an integrated marketing communication plan
- Develop a media plan and social media engagement

Successful completion of the following Certificate IV in Marketing and Communication courses or their equivalent. Equivalent competencies are predecessors to these units, which have been mapped as equivalent.

- BSBCRT412 Articulate, present and debate ideas
- BSBMKG433 Undertake marketing activities
- BSBMKG435 Analyse consumer behaviour
- BSBMKG439 Develop and apply knowledge of communications industry
- BSBWRT411 Write complex documents.

External accreditation and industry links
The development of the program structure and the choice of elective units appropriate to the Marketing and Communication sector were informed by an Industry Advisory Committee (IAC) comprised of representatives of the Marketing, Advertising, Communication industry and RMIT educators.
Teachers maintain close contact with industry through various professional development activities, and for sessional staff generally they maintain employment or operate their own businesses in a relevant sector. Nick Reynolds, Program Manager, regularly engages with extensive networks in the industry.
Teachers frequently invite guest speakers for the program. All learners participate in classes where they are assisted to make connections between theoretical concepts and the workplace. In some cases this is their own workplace. Mentoring and coaching by the facilitator in order to assist learners to make this connection is a major design feature of this program.






Student expenses and charges in addition to fees
Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees. Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.
