Purpose of the Program

This qualification enables those who are seeking a career in the financial services industry to gain the knowledge and skills required to perform the job role of a finance broker in that industry.

While most graduates of this program will attempt to secure work as a finance broker, this program also provides a study pathway to those who wish to articulate to higher education degrees in the finance field.

Articulation and pathways

Successful completion of the Diploma of Finance and Mortgage Broking Management guarantees entry into the Bachelor of Business with a minimum of 96 credit points exemption (equivalent to one-year full-time study).

Successful completion of Australian Year 12 (or equivalent)

At least 6 months work experience in a related field.

External accreditation and industry links

The development of the program structure and the choice of elective units appropriate to the intended qualification outcomes were informed by representatives of the Financial Services industry sector in collaboration with RMIT program team staff.

Most teaching staff are either currently working as mortgage brokers or have previously worked in that job role. All teachers maintain close contact with industry through various professional development and networking activities. Further industry contact will come in the form of visiting guest presenters and from those involved in peer mentoring of students.

All learners will participate in classes where they are assisted to make connections between theoretical concepts and their practical application in the workplace. In some cases, this is the student's own workplace.  Mentoring and coaching by the teacher in order to assist learners to make this connection is a major design feature of this program.

Student expenses and charges in addition to fees

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees.  Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.
