Purpose of the Program

The Advanced Diploma of Accounting qualification reflects the role of those individuals working in accounting (including tax agents, accounts managers and business analysts) and seeking professional recognition. It also reflects the needs of employees performing a range of accounts management tasks for organisations in a range of industries.

This program allows individuals to apply theoretical and technical skills in a range of situations and to display initiative and judgement in planning activities. Those individuals have autonomy in performing complex operations and can be responsible for planning, coordinating and evaluating the work of others within broad parameters.

This qualification may lead to employment in accounting job roles with duties such as:

  • implementing and maintaining accounting systems
  • maintaining internal control systems and conducting internal audit activities
  • preparing financial statements for corporate reporting entities
  • reporting on business performance
  • managing small teams
  • contributing to the development of business plans
  • preparing internal accounting reports for management
  • preparing tax returns and providing tax advice for legal entities

In addition to providing training for those students who are already working in the accounting industry, allowing them to broaden their knowledge and improve their chances of job progression, this program also provides excellent opportunities for articulation into relevant higher education studies.

Note: RMIT graduate students of this Advanced Diploma will have completed all educational requirements for registration as a Tax Agent with the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB). Full details of the TPB requirements for registration as a Tax Agent can be found at https://www.tpb.gov.au/tax-agent-registration
