Purpose of the Program

This program has been designed for you to build specialist knowledge in both the theoretical and technical aspects of contemporary production in animation, games and interactivity.

In this studio-based program, you will engage with concepts and techniques of professional productions in the context of projects underpinned by contemporary developments in animation, games and interactivity. While acquiring skills in animation, game and interactive production, you will develop practical knowledge of narrative, visual, and interactive media from a directorial perspective. You will situate your creative practice in the broader historical and theoretical context of animation via the examination of critical discourses and through contemporary studio forms and devices, exploring and innovating within emerging global trends.

The suite of skills and experiences will underpin and be integrated through practice-led research projects within a studio environment. The studio format gives you the opportunity to explore thematic/cultural/professional design issues through a variety of approaches in your chosen area of practice. You will conceptualise, develop and produce a range of creative projects that respond to a brief and demonstrate your achievement of the program learning outcomes. Studio work encourages peer-to-peer learning which will form an important part of your professional practice upon graduation.  Classes may be delivered in an online and/or face to face format.

On completion of the program, you will have specialised knowledge and skills for professional practice in the animation, games and interactive media industries. You will be able to apply directorial vision and communication skills, to realise solutions in motion and interaction design that are innovative and engaging for contemporary audiences. Upon graduation, you will be experienced in project planning, collaborative practice, team-based production and management and will be able to confidently communicate with allied professionals, such as writers, producers, designers and programmers. You will have the opportunity to connect to a network of practitioners and to form collaborative partnerships with the potential to extend beyond the program itself.
