Purpose of the Program

The Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Finance and Investment is a postgraduate qualification that will provide you with the necessary skills to stay ahead in the ever-evolving field of sustainable finance and investment. You will gain a comprehensive understanding of sustainable finance and investments principles and knowledge, well-equipped with a solid theoretical and practical foundation needed to become successful professionals in the field.

You will be taught about the impact of environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues on global financial markets and how to identify opportunities for value creation through ESG investing. You will learn on how to identify emerging trends in sustainable finance, and how to incorporate them into real-world financial markets and investment strategies. You will learn about the various types of risk associated with investing in sustainability, and explore risk management strategies for mitigating financial risk as well as sustainability-related risks related to different types of investments. In addition, you will gain an in-depth understanding of the ethics, regulations and policies that govern sustainable finance and technology's role and application in driving innovation in this area. With this knowledge, graduates can confidently enter the job market ready to make an impact in the world of sustainable finance and investments.

The Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Finance and Investment directly responds to the evolving demand in the job market for professionals with green skills and aligns with the increasing demand from prospective students for education that addresses social and environmental issues. The field of Sustainable Finance and Investments, therefore, presents many career opportunities. The Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Finance and Investment graduates can undertake roles as Risk Analyst, Investment Analyst, Financial Analyst, Financier, ESG & Sustainable Finance Analyst, Green Finance Associate, Investment Manager, Sustainable Finance Consultant, Impact Investing Consultant, Financial Impact Consultant, Corporate Sustainability Strategist, Climate Risk Analyst, Ethical Banking Advisor, Sustainable Investment Analyst and ESG Data Analyst in the finance and investment sectors. 

Upon successful completion of the GC219 Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Finance and Investment, you may be eligible for up to 48 credit points of exemption towards MC201 Master of Finance. 

The delivery of this program is blended comprising of face-to-face and online learning, incorporating scheduled face-to-face classes, pre-recorded lectures, online activities and self-directed study.

Articulation and pathways

Upon successful completion of the GC219 Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Finance and Investment, you may be eligible for up to 48 credit points of exemption towards MC201 Master of Finance. 

All other credits and exemptions will be assessed in accordance to the RMIT Admissions and Credit Policy and the relevant program structure. Please note, all exemptions are subject to change.

If you have already developed areas of skill and knowledge included in this program you can apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) once you have enrolled in this program. There is information on the RMIT University website about how to apply for RPL. These arrangements may be subject to change.

Entrance requirements

Academic Entrance requirements

  • Australian Bachelor degree or equivalent or higher level qualification in any discipline*.

Alternate Entry

  • No prior academic qualifications but a minimum of 5 years full-time equivalent (FTE) work experience is required with evidence. Applicants will be required to submit a CV.

*If your qualification was completed more than 10 years ago you will need to provide evidence of ongoing professional work and/or professional development in the same discipline as the program for which you are seeking entry to be granted credit.

Applicants must meet the University's minimum English language requirements to be eligible for a place in this program.

Student expenses and charges in addition to fees

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees.  Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.

Resources available from the Library
As a student enrolled in a program at RMIT University you can access the extensive services, facilities and study space provided by the Library. Through our document delivery service you can also request items from any library in the world.

If you have a laptop you can access the RMIT wireless network in the Library. Library staff can show you how to find information for your assignments or you can work through web-based tutorials or use our online Ask a Librarian service.The Library is continually expanding our electronic collections to make it easier for you to get the information you need when you need it.
