Top of pagePurpose of the Program
The Master of Business Information Technology seeks to provide the knowledge and skills to operate confidently and effectively in a global technological business environment. This program is designed to produce ethically and socially responsible professionals who have the potential and knowledge to create and manage successful business information systems solutions drawing on technical and leadership capabilities, effective communication skills, client requirements focus, innovative professional practices, and strategic and organisational skills.
The program places a strong emphasis on providing a body of knowledge and experiences, by combining lectures, tutorials, workshops and seminars, which reflect the practicalities of the real world, especially concerning Information and Communications Technology (ICT) management and digital business. Theory and practice are appropriately blended to allow you to appreciate and develop an understanding of practical and ICT-related issues in business.
In the final year of the program, a capstone experience, ISYS3303 Business Information Technology Project, integrates and synthesises a range of knowledge and skills gained in the program and then applied to discipline related real-world scenarios leading to work readiness. This program seeks to develop well-rounded and skilled graduates, who can apply sound critical thinking and judgment and are prepared professionals in ICT Management.
The core research course of this program is BUSM4448 Business Research Design. This course is designed to develop your knowledge of research principles and methods and how to apply them within the contemporary business environment. You will have the opportunity to conduct a research project/proposal and further develop your skills in research methodology.

1. Students admitted with the equivalent of an Australian Bachelor degree or higher level qualification in business (or a related discipline) will be exempted from completing four (4) Business and Law courses (48 credit points) from the optional course list in the final semester of the program. Students will be required to complete an additional twelve (12) courses (144 credit points) in order to qualify for the degree.
2. Students who successfully complete the RMIT Graduate Certificate in Business Information Technology will be exempted from completing the four (4) discipline courses completed in the Graduate Certificate in Business Information Technology and will be required to complete an additional twelve (12) courses (144 credit points) in order to qualify for the degree.
