Purpose of the Program
Program Purpose Statement
The Master of Project Management (Information Technology) will develop your specialised theoretical knowledge and technical skills in project management. The courses in this program have been designed to enable you to develop and apply your advanced and specialised knowledge to a range of project management organisations and contexts within the information technology sector.
This program replicates industry and professional practice contexts and will equip you to work independently and effectively in multi disciplinary teams to achieve expert project and portfolio management. In doing so you will develop your knowledge of specialised areas within project management including procurement, client management, entrepreneurship, planning, digitial innovation and scheduling.
The program emphasises the application of theoretical knowledge to practice and will develop your capacity to respond to current and emerging industry issues and trends. You will critically engage with project management theory and best practice principles, and evaluate and implement project management strategies as appropriate to the IT industry and organisational context.
Upon successful completion of this program, you will be a professional practitioner with high level specialised knowledge of the project management field, specialising in the Information Technology industry. You will be able to assess and circumvent project risk, and utilise information technology management skills and strategy to respond to organisational issues and imperatives, and to diverse client needs. You will confidently lead others and provide expert and strategic advice to meet project deliverables and optimise project outcomes and success. You will be highly adept and experienced in collaborating with diverse project stakeholders and be able to research and interpret new developments to inform your expert advice and decision making. In preparation for professional and leadership roles in a variety of project management IT organisational contexts including small and large scale organisations, you will be able to perform a broad range of roles that project management entails, ranging from working on project teams to leading them.
As a graduate of this program, you will be able to apply your specialised knowledge, research and information technology technical skills to the IT sector. Your highly developed research skills will enable you to research new developments as you address industry issues and problems.
A capstone experience is offered through the courses BUSM4415 Industry Project Investigation and BUSM3214 Research Investigation 2. Through an individually negotiated professional practice or scholarly research project, you will integrate and synthesise your knowledge, connect theory to practice as well as demonstrate your holistic achievement of the program learning outcomes.
You will gain skills in local and global contexts for research and life-long learning to enable you to confidently contribute to the IT industry that is always evolving.
