Purpose of the Program
The Undergraduate Certificate in Applied Mathematics & Statistics will:
- give you basic knowledge and skills of mathematical and statistical theory
- prepare you to pursue your studies in any domain of science that requires mathematical modelling and statistics
- expose you to some mathematical and statistical models, programming environments, approaches and software
- enable you to select and apply appropriate mathematical and statistical methodologies, techniques and software to some real problems
- develop skills and abilities transferable in a professional context, including problem solving and analytical skills, communication skills, technology literacy, and the ability to work in a team and interact with others
The program is designed to build a solid basis of mathematical and statistical knowledge, and conceptual and analytical skills that are essential for further studies in science or engineering and are desirable in any professional environment requiring analytical and conceptual skills.
This program is mostly delivered online; some courses may deliver practical, lab or tutorial activities on campus.

Successful completion of an Australian Year 12 senior secondary certificate of education or equivalent.

Prerequisites
Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) prerequisite units 3 and 4 — a study score of at least 20 in one of Mathematical Methods (CAS) or Specialist Mathematics; and a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in any other English.
English language requirements
A minimum IELTS (Academic module) overall score of 6.5, with no band below 6.0; or equivalent. For equivalents to English entry requirements, see the English equivalents web page
