The Bachelor of Business (Marketing) (Applied) degree requires completion of 24 x 12 credit point units of study plus 96 credit points of Work Integrated Learning (WIL courses). 

The 24 courses are made up of the following:

  • 8 Business common core courses;
  • 8 Marketing major courses;
  • 2 Compulsory specialist courses;
  • 2 Business design project courses (capstone courses); and
  • 4 Flexible courses made up or four university electives.

 

Please note: All courses listed may not available each Semester, this is important to note when planning your enrolments. You must ensure that you satisfy the academic requirements of your program, in order to graduate.

 

 

Capstone Courses

Capstone Courses are compulsory courses designed to consolidate the learning undertaken throughout the program and should be taken in your final year/semester of study. Applications for credit transfer or recognition of prior learning will not be accepted for these courses.

Course Requisite Information 

The course MKTG1071 Strategic Marketing has enforced requisites which are listed below. The following four (4) courses must be completed prior to enrolling into Strategic Marketing:

  • MKTG1050 Buyer Behaviour 
  • MKTG1041 Marketing Communication
  • MKTG1045 Market Research
  • MKTG1053 Services Marketing

Note: It is highly recommended that you undertake MKTG1071 Strategic Marketing in your final semester.

 

The course BUSM4377 Marketing Business Design Project 1 has enforced requisites which are listed below. The following four (4) courses must be completed prior to enrolling into BUSM4377:

  • MKTG1242 Marketing - Work Integrated Learning (WIL) 1
  • MKTG1243 Marketing - Work Integrated Learning (WIL) 2
  • MKTG1244 Marketing - Work Experience in Industry (WEI) 1
  • MKTG1245 Marketing - Work Experience in Industry (WEI) 2

 

In addition, the course BUSM4378 Marketing Business Design Project 2 has an enforced requisite. The following course must be completed prior to enrolling into BUSM4378:

  • BUSM4377 Marketing Business Design Project 1

Year One of Program

IMPORTANT NOTE: The BP141 Bachelor of Business (Marketing) (Applied) program will be formally discontinued from Semester 1, 2022. The final intake for admission into the BP141 Bachelor of Business (Marketing) (Applied) program was Semester 2, 2021. 

The program will be taught out to current students until Semester 1, 2033. If you anticipate that you will successfully complete this program by the end of 2021, these changes do not apply to you.  

The BP141 Bachelor of Business (Marketing)(Applied) is currently accredited by the Australian Marketing Institute. The College of Business and Law will seek ongoing professional accreditation of BP141 Bachelor of Business (Marketing)(Applied) until the end of the teach out period. 
 
BP343 Bachelor of Business and BP344 Bachelor of Business are not currently accredited by any professional body. The College of Business and Law is seeking professional accreditation for the marketing major within the BP343 Bachelor of Business and BP344 Bachelor of Business Professional Practice. 

Current students who will not finish the program by the end of 2021 have the option to either: 
 
Option 1 - Remain in your current program

Recommended for students in the second, third or fourth year of your current program. 

If you remain in your current program, you must complete the program by the end of Semester 1, 2033.  Please refer to the course teach-out schedule to ensure you complete all core courses prior to their final offering.

If you commenced the program before Semester 1 2022, please refer to the following transition rules: 

  • If you have completed LAW2442 Commercial Law, you do not need to complete LAW2442 Business Law, as this is a course title change only. 
  • If you have completed MKTG1086 Business Ethics, you do not need to complete MKTG1423 Marketing and Society, as this is a replacement course only. 
  • If you have completed MKTG1053 Service Quality, you do not need to complete MKTG1053 Services Marketing, as this is a course title change only. 
  • If you have completed MKTG1069 Advanced Marketing Concepts and Applications, you do not need to complete MKTG1069 Applied Marketing Management, as this is a course title change only. 

 
Option 2 - Transfer to the BP343 Bachelor of Business (3yr degree) or BP344 Bachelor of Business Professional Practice (4yr degree) or any other RMIT program. 

Recommended for students in the first year of your current program. 

The equivalent major in the new programs to your existing degree is MarketingNote: entry will be subject to maintaining satisfactory academic progress.

We recommend that you repeat any failed course(s) in the next available semester. 

In year one of your program, you will study seven (7) of your business common core courses and one (1) of your Marketing major courses.

It is highly recommended that you undertake MKTG1025 Marketing Principles in your first semester and MKTG1050 Buyer Behaviour in your second semester.

Year Four of Program

In year four of your program, you will complete the two (2) remaining Marketing major courses, the two (2) business design project courses (capstone courses) and your four flexible courses made up of either a business minor, a minor from another discipline or four (4) university electives.

 

The Advertising and Public Relations Minor offered by the College of Design and Social Context has been identified as complimentary for students studying marketing. Please note, this minor will count towards the four unspecified electives and cannot be substituted for the business minor.


The courses required for the Advertising and Public Relations Minor are listed below:

  1. GRAP2311 Creative Advertising Available in Semester 1 2024 (term 2410) and Semester 2 2024     (term  2450) – classes are still in the process of being scheduled.
  2. GRAP2369 Advertising Media - Available only in Semester 2 2024 (term 2450) – classes are still in the process of being scheduled.

DESIGN PROJECT IMPORTANT INFORMATION: School of Economics, Finance & Marketing (EFM) have made the decision to consolidate some of our Design Project courses from Semester 1 2023.  

 

BUSM4377 Marketing Business Design Project 1 will be merged with BUSM4369 Accounting Business Design Project 1; therefore, you will see the Accounting Business Design Project course via Canvas. This, however, will not impact on your transcript as you are enrolled in your discipline-specific design project course; BUSM4377 Marketing Business Design Project 1 will be documented on your transcript.

 

Students who have completed BUSM4377 Marketing Business Design Project 1:

 

  • If you completed BUSM4377 Marketing Business Design Project 1 prior to 2023, you can enrol in BUSM4378 Marketing Business Design Project 2 in Semester 1, 2023. 
  • From Semester 2 2023 onwards, BUSM4378 Marketing Business Design Project 2 will be replaced by OMGT2378 Interdisciplinary Business Project.OMGT2378 Interdisciplinary Business Project will appear on your transcript.
  • If you have already completed BUSM4378 Marketing Business Design Project 2, you do not need to complete OMGT2378 Interdisciplinary Business Project.

 

Due to enforced requisites students are unable to complete Design Project 1 and Design Project 2 in the same semester.

Enrolment Load

The maximum standard enrolment load per semester is 48 credit points. 

 

Overloading 

You will only be permitted to overload by a maximum of 12 credit points in the final semester of your program, upon approval from the College.

 

Credit and Pathways

If you have completed an RMIT College of Business Vocational Education program and you are continuing your studies into an RMIT College of Business and Law Higher Education program, you will be eligible to receive advanced standing for approved courses.
