Approach to learning and assessment

Successful completion of this program requires you to demonstrate that you are competent in 15 units. The program has two intakes, February and July. For learning and assessment purposes these units of competency, span 2 semesters for full time study (12 months).  Part time study is available (24 months).

Several of these courses are offered as remote/online delivery.

The program involves a sequential development with an emphasis on the acquisition of skills into the production of work.  It encourages the further development of methods and materials and concentrates on the production of work that demonstrates sound conceptual ideas evolving from an understanding of contemporary art practices.

Theoretical courses further develop and reinforce the practical applications as well as provide an understanding of many career pathways within the arts industry.

The program will enable you to move directly into your own professional practice, pursue further study or undertake work in a multitude of arts related industries such gallery or museum work, community arts or as an art practitioner.

Assessment occurs mid-year and end of year and includes:

  • Practical demonstrations of competency
  • Completion of a portfolio of artwork
  • Completion of written work such as reports and self reflections
  • Participation in tutorials
  • Completion of visual journals.

Work integrated learning

RMIT is committed to providing you with an education that strongly links formal learning with professional or vocational practice. As a student enrolled in this RMIT program you will:

  • undertake and be assessed on structured activities that allow you to learn, apply and demonstrate your professional or vocational practice;
  • interact with industry and community when undertaking these activities;
  • complete these activities in real work contexts or situations;

and in addition:

  • these interactions and the work contexts provide distinctive sources of feedback to you to assist your learning.

Any or all of these aspects of a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experience may be simulated.

Formal Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experiences are provided in the program in the following course:

CUAPPR513 Present a body of own creative work

If you are working, particularly in a job which is related to your studies you will also be learning while at work and may have the opportunity to be assessed in your workplace for some or all of your courses. Feedback from work supervisors and others in the workplace can be used as evidence of competency, and an RMIT University assessor can visit your workplace to observe your work practice.
