Course Description

This unit covers the skills and knowledge to lay up, make marker and cut work for sample designs where only a couple of garments would be cut out at a time following standard workplace procedures.

Learning Outcomes

In this unit you will develop the skills and knowledge required to develop a marker and cut single garments or small sample runs of garments, including the cutting of all required trims. Learning outcomes also include the safe use of cutting tools and equipment  including dress maker’s shears, electric cutting tools and rotary cutters.

Detailed course and assessment requirements and information will be made available to you first week of class. Specific details will be explained to you during scheduled classes.

This course comprises both practical and theory components. You will be expected to attend and participate in class activities.


As well as class activities you will be required to undertake research and assessment practice outside of regular class times and participate in formal assessment tasks.
